Everyone's talking about this new video game adaptation
From The Last of Us to The Witcher, video game TV adaptations are all the rage right now. The latest to create a buzz is Fallout, Prime Video’s new post-apocalyptic drama which has shot up to number one since launching on the platform. Based on one of the greatest video games of all time, Fallout comes from the creators of Westworld, starring names like Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets) and Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight). Here’s everything you need to know, plus how to stream the show.
Everything You Need To Know About Fallout
What’s Fallout About?
Fallout is inspired by a video game of the same name, first released in 1997 and renowned for its impressive visuals and ‘50s aesthetic. Both the series and the game are set 200 years after a nuclear war, where communities of humans have been living safely below ground in bunkers. However, when optimistic vault-dweller Lucy Walton (Purnell) emerges outside for the first time in many years, she discovers the world above-ground has descended into a post-apocalyptic Wild West. She embarks on a journey through the wastelands of California – and an inevitable clash between the two civilisations (those above ground and those living in the vaults) ensues.
The synopsis reads: ‘Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind – and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.’
Who Is In The Cast?
Alongside Purnell as Lucy, Fallout stars Goggins as The Ghoul, who survives the wasteland as a bounty hunter. Aaron Moten plays a young soldier called Maximus, while Kyle MacLaughlin plays Overseer Hank, Lucy’s father and the overseer of Vault 33. The cast also includes:
- Mike Doyle as Mr Spencer
- Moisés Arias as Norm, Lucy’s brother
- Johnny Pemberton as Thaddeus
- Cherien Dabis as Birdie
- Dale Dickey as Ma June
- Matty Cardarople as Huey
- Michael Emerson as Wilzig, an enigmatic wanderer who aids Lucy
- Dave Register as Chet
- Rodrigo Luzzi as Reg
- Annabel O’Hagan as Steph

Will There Be A Fallout Season 2?
There’s no word yet on whether the show will be renewed for a second series, however, there have been some clues to suggest it could be on the cards. One of Fallout’s executive producers, Jonathan Nolan, told TechRadar there have been ‘some really cool conversations’ about season two, but for now the focus remains on season one. ‘If there are enough people out there who love it, and we’re lucky to get the chance to go again, then we’ll be playing in the same space, but not necessarily with the same elements,’ he said.
Plus, in an interview with Men’s Health, Goggins pointed out that there’s much more material to be covered. ‘We’ve just scratched the surface, to be quite honest with you,’ he said. ‘According to the writers, they thought they would be much further along in the story by the end of season one. But it was just too much to unpack.’ Watch this space…
