This BBC series is set to be a heartwarming hit
Got a One Day-shaped hole in your heart? You’ll love Film Club, a six-part BBC series written by (and starring) Aimee Lou Wood. Here’s the rundown on this brand new show.
Film Club, Starring Aimee Lou Wood: Everything We Know So Far
What Is Film Club About?
According to the BBC, Film Club is ‘a piercingly funny and utterly heart-warming screenwriting debut from two of Britain’s most exciting voices’ – Sex Education’s Aimee Lou Wood and fellow actor Ralph Davis (who you might know from SAS Rogue Heroes, Life After Life and The Globe’s production of Othello).
The BBC’s official synopsis reads: ‘Every Thursday. 9pm. Tom and Evie watch a film together in her garage. Evie lovingly decorates the space to match the film of the week – from a yellow brick road for The Wizard of Oz to a spacecraft for Alien. It’s magical. They’re there for the love of the movies. Or at least, that’s what they tell themselves.
‘In reality, Tom is madly in love with Evie. What he doesn’t know is that Evie is in love with him too. But when Tom accepts a job at the other end of the country, their happily ever after comes under threat. He’s leaving in six weeks. That means Evie has six film clubs left to tell Tom how she feels, or risk losing him forever.
‘Evie is going to have to navigate all of this amongst the chaos of her family home – her eccentric and unconventional mother, Suz, and her younger sister Izzy. A trio of women full of love, and dysfunction, in equal measure.’
Who Will Star?
So far, all we know is that Evie will be played by Wood. Further casting (including Tom’s character) hasn’t been announced yet – check back for updates.
Release Date
Since Film Club is still in the works, it might be a while before it lands on our screens; you can expect a release date of late 2024 or even early 2025. The series will appear on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
