Glenfiddich x Goodwood: Iconic British Luxury Brands Collaborate to Raise Money for Race Against Dementia

Normally, Country & Town House wouldn’t be endorsing anything which combines motorsport and alcohol. But when we heard that Glenfiddich had teamed up with the Goodwood Estate to release a limited-edition single malt whisky, and that all proceeds would be going to Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity, we put our car keys back in the drawer and pulled up a chair.

Only three 700cl bottles of Glenfiddich Goodwood will be produced, and not one dram will be available for sale on the open market. Each whisky comes beautifully packaged in a specially-commissioned, hand-blown Baccarat crystal decanter, and all three are due to be sold in separate lots at Bonhams’ Edinburgh Whisky Auction this December.

Distilled in 1979, and resting undisturbed in an American oak hogshead cask for 42 years, this exquisite, rare whisky was hand-selected and drawn earlier this year by the distillery’s Malt Master Brian Kinsman. With the auction less than two weeks away, we were invited to an exclusive sample tasting, and what a taste it was. The Glenfiddich Goodwood is the most stunning example of William Grant and Sons’ whisky mastery. Sublimely balanced with a unique, earthy character and delicious oaky sweetness, it delivers on the palette with an exceptionally long vanilla, toffee and baked fruit finish. It’s sad to think that after the auction, these stunning decanters may never be opened, such is their scarcity and investment potential.

The three lots are sure to command international attention for the rarity and quality of the whisky alone. However, bidders will also be competing for money-can’t-buy VIP racing experiences, including hosted laps of the historic Goodwood circuit at the 79th annual Members’ Meeting and Goodwood Revival, or the opportunity to experience the rally stage or a supercar hill climb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

In addition, each successful bidder will enjoy a private whisky tasting on the Estate, exclusive paddock tours and trackside hospitality, care of the Duke of Richmond and his family, and receive a photographic print, signed by renowned Formula 1 photographer Rainer Schlegelmilch and Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, who founded Race Against Dementia to raise and allocate monies to research into a prevention or cure for dementia, following the diagnosis of his wife, Helen.

Petrolheads and whisky collectors interested in securing a piece of whisky history, as well as an unforgettable day at England’s greatest sporting estate, should register their interest with Bonhams, who have put an estimate of £6,500-10,000 on each lot. For those unable to make it to Edinburgh to bid in person, the auction will be streamed live.
