Idris Elba is back for a second instalment of the tense thriller

Apple TV’s Hijack was one of the most talked about TV shows of 2023, starring Idris Elba as a corporate negotiator who gets tangled up in a terrorist plot on board a plane. And now it has been announced that there will be a second series, following Elba’s character Sam Nelson as finds himself caught up in another high-stakes situation. Here are the details we have so far on Hijack season 2.

What Will Hijack Season 2 Be About?

We haven’t got much information on what season two of Hijack will entail – but if season 1 is anything to go by, it’ll make for tense viewing. Told in real time across seven episodes, the first series is set on a plane from Dubai to London, which is taken over by a group of armed hijackers. Luckily, one of the passengers on board is business negotiator Sam Nelson (Elba), who spearheads a mission to foil their villainous plans. Meanwhile, the air traffic control team on the ground are trying to make sense of what’s going on, culminating in a nail-biting finale.

So where will season 2 take us? Will Nelson be unlucky enough to find himself on another hijacked plane? Or will the drama take place on board a different type of transport – or indeed a different situation altogether?

Speaking to Variety around the time of the first season, Elba said: ‘What would be the acceptable scenario that he comes back? I just don’t want to put him on another hijack. I’m open to that character coming back. I think if people were compelled to like the character, then I’m in.’ So perhaps the new season won’t be about a hijack, but another kind of high-level corruption situation where Nelson’s smooth talking skills will come in handy.

Cast

The second season is once again being created by Jim Field, with Elba set to return. Speaking about the news, Elba said in a statement: ‘I was floored by the overwhelming audience response after Season 1. It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson, but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!’ The rest of the cast hasn’t yet been revealed, so we’ll have to wait and see whether another other familiar faces will be returning. Season one featured names like Aimée Kelly, Ben Miles, Jack McMullen, and Neil Maskell.

When Will Hijack Season 2 Come Out?

We haven’t yet got word on a release date, but as it’s not yet in production we could be waiting a little while.
