Alan Carr’s design competition series returns to BBC One this week
Alan Carr’s cult-followed interior design reality-competition series is back. In Interior Design Masters, Carr is joined by interiors guru and former Elle Decoration editor Michelle Ogundehin to find a talented and passionate interior designer from a cohort of 10 dazzling hopefuls. Here’s what to expect from series 6, plus when it’ll be on TV.
Interior Design Masters Series 6: Contestants, Release Schedule & More
What’s The Premise?
Interior Design Masters is a competition series pitting 10 amateur interior designers head-to-head, with the grand prize a lucrative commercial contract. Each week, a new challenge is set, testing their ability to design creatively and uniquely while also fulfilling a commercial or residential brief. Each episode, the weakest designer is eliminated.
What Can We Expect From This Series?
Speaking to the BBC, Carr has teased viewers can expect the contestants to be tasked with transforming even bigger and better spaces this series. ‘We’ve really pushed the envelope when it comes to the location and spaces they needed to do up,’ he says. ‘We still had our regulars like shops and office spaces, but we introduced real exciting curve balls like luxury retirement homes, comedy clubs, the room rescue dogs go to before they find their forever home, interesting design challenges that will inspire and hopefully get the viewers at home saying, “how the hell are they going to make this work?”.’
In terms of the designers themselves, one contestant in particular is all about sustainability, which Carr found ‘inspiring’. ‘One designer was so good at resourcing, recycling and repurposing, that they inspired me to think, when it comes to taking something unloved and making it useful, nothing is off limits,’ Carr says. ‘They could repurpose anything – and I’m not just talking about odd bits of wood and fabric, it was really obscure stuff, too. They would re-use and still make it look like something you’d get in a high-end designer shop. Completely inspiring and original.’
And, as well as plenty of success, Carr promises many blunders. ‘I don’t want to throw any of our super talented designers under the bus, but I’m sure they would admit that there were some dubious design choices,’ the Chatty Man host joked. ‘No spoilers here but for the audience who like a bit of randomness and live for those “What were they thinking moments?!”, then they won’t be disappointed.’
What Does The Winner Get?
This year, the winner of Interior Design Masters will have the opportunity to team up with John Lewis to release their very own collection of homeware.

Will There Be Another Series Of Interior Design Masters?
Yes, the BBC has revealed there will be Interior Design Masters series 7 and series 8 to boot. Casting is already open for series 7, with filming set to commence in the summer, ready to air in spring 2026.
‘To get your show recommissioned is always a lovely thing but to get it recommissioned twice is really special,’ Carr said on the news. ‘And it’s such a wonderful feeling to know that Interior Design Masters will, for the next two years, be keeping the UK entertained and also inspired. I feel the show goes from strength to strength and whether Interior Design Masters makes you giggle on the settee or propels you up a stepladder with a drill in hand to give your room some much needed TLC, we hope we put a smile on your face.’
