Here comes September


August slipped away into a moment in time… And now it’s time for September to shine. While we may have hardly seen the sun this summer, we’re nevertheless excited for autumnal hues and our feet are just itching to stomp on a crunchy leaf. If you’re looking for more things to get up to, here are our top things to do in London in September 2024.

Newless & Friends Pop-Up

Celebrating Second Hand September, a bespoke upcycling service is coming to Hackney this month, for one night and one night only. Featuring emerging designers, visitors can have their unworn pieces upcycled live in under 90 minutes, all while sipping drinks, socialising with friends, and browsing wares from Wayback Labs, Circular Groove and AGO.

Focus/24

Returning to the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour this week is Focus, an international design and decoration show designed to bring together brands, makers and creatives. Expect a programme of more than 100 events.

Walk For Humanity

September is the month of International Day of Charity and International Day of Peace – so when better to join one of the Red Cross’ Walks for Humanity. You’ll pass iconic London landmarks including St Paul’s, Big Ben, the Tate Modern and the London Eye, all while raising important funds and awareness for people struggling through conflict, disasters and poverty across the globe.

Details: Saturday 28 September 2024, starting and ending at Archbishop’s Park (Carlisle Ln, London SE1 7LE). There is a 10km walk and a 5km walk to choose between, with the former setting off at 10am. Sign ups start from £5 and can be found at walkforhumanity.redcross.org.uk

Big Woof Festival

The Big Woof Festival is back in London once again this month, this time taking over King’s Cross. Expect fun, fur and frolics across two days dedicated to our beloved four-legged friends. The theme is wellness, so expect dog yoga, doggy massages and even sound baths for the most zen of pups.

See The Comedy Of Errors

Back by popular demand, this classic comedy from Shakespeare runs for a mere 90 minutes – but it’s packed full of laughs. With events taking place over the course of one confusing afternoon, expect swashbuckling slapstick comedy (with some seriously impressive faux fights) spliced with expert wordplay the Bard is known for, all performed by an exuberant cast.

The Pelican Ox Head Dinner

Ox Head Supper Club

Next up in The Pelican’s zero waste supper clubs is an Ox Head Dinner, celebrating head and neck cuts of cattle – think ox cheek and tongue and beef neck fritters – with an optional wine pairing.

Sathnam Sanghera At Charlotte Street Hotel

Join Charlotte Street Hotel’s September book club with Sathnam Sanghera. Expect a thought-provoking evening delving into the complex history and lasting impact of British imperialism as Sathnam shares insights from his best-selling books, Empireland and Empireworld.

Dining Through The Decades Supper Club

Is this London’s most unique supper club? Food Historian and author Eleanor Barnett and Firmdale’s Executive Chef Joe Fox have teamed up on a new historical supper club celebrating historical cuisine. The September edition is the Victorians, featuring everything from street food to fine turbot.

See G At The Royal Court Theatre

Addressing adolescent relationships and identity, the impact of surveillance and the hypervisibility of young Black men, G follows three friends who are just trying to get through school: Khaleem, Joy and Kai. On the night of an alleged crime, a spirit called Baitface the Gullyman rears its head – according to legend, it steals the faces and lives of Black boys – and the friends’ fate and friendships are thrown into peril.

Exhibition By An Emerging Artist

A new exhibition is opening at Claridge’s ArtSpace at the end of September, from the winner of the first Claridge’s Royal Academy Schools Art Prize. Daria Blum’s Drip Drip Point Warp Spin Buckle Rot explores the relationship between physical space and muscle memory, choreography and embodiment, and notions of institutional power as they relate to dance and architecture, all in dialogue with the gallery’s subterranean architecture.

See A Face In The Crowd

On 10 September, the Young Vic will inaugurate new musical A Face in the Crowd for its two-month run. With lyrics by Elvis Costello and a book by award-winning Broadway playwright  Sarah Ruhl, A Face in the Crowd is based on the classic 1957 film, exploring celebrity, power and politics.

British lifestyle label Anya Hindmarch is no stranger to a quirky concept. Whether it’s giant googly eyes, colour-coordinated labels or oddly flavoured ice cream, where there’s fun, there’s Anya. The same can be said for the brand’s latest concept store; arriving at The Village this August, Anya Hindmarch has tapped into the world of Charles M. Schulz and brought the Peanuts gang to London.
