NEW: Only Murders In The Building Moves To LA For Season 4

One of our favourite Disney+ shows is about to get a brand new, sun-soaked look for it’s upcoming series, with a surprise move to California. That’s right: Only Murders in the Building season 4 will be set in LA, baby! But how will the series work without the titular NYC building? Here’s everything we know so far.

New Location: Los Angeles

It’s official: Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) are leaving their iconic NYC home, the Arconia building, and heading to Los Angeles, California for a brand new case in Only Murders in the Building season 4. The news was recently confirmed by Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich, who told Deadline: ‘I’m very excited to see Steve, Martin and Selena take a little break from the apartment building and come to Los Angeles. So in the same way that [co-creator] John Hoffman used the canvas of Broadway to tell what I think was one of the most unique seasons you’ve ever seen, the same unique Only Murders take will be applied to Los Angeles, which I’m really excited about.’

So there we have it: LA, baby! Since the news surfaced, Deadline have also reported that the team will visit LA before returning to their beloved Arconia building – so it’s just a trip, and we don’t have to wave goodbye to the iconic building just yet.

What Will Happen In Season 4?

So what will happen in season 4 of Only Murders in the Building? The creators are keeping schtum, but we hope we will get some answers after the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of series three. To recap, our trio of sleuths successfully solved Ben Glenroy’s murder, but season three’s closing moments saw Charles’ stunt double Sazz (Jane Lynch) shot dead in his apartment. Of course, we can only presume Charles was the intended victim. So, who is out to get him?

Who Will Star?

Or, the more important question, will Meryl Streep return? The answer is yes, it has been confirmed that the shiniest star of season 3 will be back for Only Murders in the Building season 4, reprising her role as struggling actress Loretta Durkin who starts up a relationship with Oliver.  Erwich commented: ‘I thought she [Streep] gave one of the best television performances of the year last year. I’ve listened to that song she has sung probably a dozen times. I can never get tired of it.’

So, who else? Well, our central trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) are definitely returning, while Molly Shannon was recently cast in season four for a season-long arc. It is being reported that Shannon will play a high-powered business women working in LA who finds herself drawn into the world of investigation in NYC. Intriguing.

However, if season three is anything to go by, we’re sure there will be some guest stars, too.

Release Date

No news just yet on when Only Murders in the Building season 4 will arrive on Disney+, but if previous seasons are anything to go by, we expect it to begin streaming weekly in August 2024.

Will There Be A Season 5?

No news just yet, but co-creator John Hoffman is giving us hope: ‘This is one of those shows everyone involved in it is so happy doing it – and I know I speak for the trio and everyone else,’ he recently said. ‘When you have lightning in a bottle in this way, and then there’s this magnetising force of incredible talent who say, “Wow, that looks like fun. I would love to be a part of that.” I hope it gives it a good long life.’ So do we, John. So do we.
