Everything we know so far about Out of the Dust

Whether it’s documentaries delving into them (remember Wild Wild Country?) or dramas about people escaping them (Unorthadox is a must-watch), we have an insatiable appetite for TV shows about cults – and Netflix is well aware. Hot off the heels of Under the Banner of Heaven comes another religious cult series, and filming is officially underway – with some big names attached to boot, from Sex Education star Asa Butterfield to Doctor Who alum Christopher Eccleston. Here’s everything we know so far about Out of the Dust – plus when we can expect it to land on our screens.

Out Of The Dust: Plot, Cast, Release Date & More

From the writer of Sky’s Intergalactic, Julie Gearey, Netflix has teased a brand new psychological thriller is on its way to the streamer.

What Will Happen?

Peering behind the closed doors of a fictional conservative religious sect, Out of the Dust will centre on Rosie, devoted wife to Adam and mother to their daughter who is propelled into a dangerous journey towards freedom after a fateful encounter with an escaped convict, Sam. Across six episodes, expect a psychological rollercoaster as Rosie uncovers the reality and restraints of her world, and experiences a sexual awakening.

As the cracks in the cult begin to show, Rosie is left with a choice: stick with the devil you know, or escape with a convict with a dark criminal past?

Who Will Star?

  • Asa Butterfield as Adam
  • Molly Windsor as Rosie
  • Fra Free as Sam
  • Christopher Eccleston as Mr Phillips
  • Siobhan Finneran as Mrs Phillips

Where Was It Filmed?

Filming is underway in the UK.

Release Date

No news on a specific release date just yet, but we expect Out of the Dust to land some time in 2025.
