It’s official: a Red, White & Royal Blue sequel is in the works. Here’s everything we know so far…
It’s prime time to be a Nicholas Galitzine fan: he just wowed on the Met Gala green carpet; he is the dreamy male lead in the surprisingly popular rom com, The Idea of You; he shows us his serious side in Sky’s Mary & George; and he will reprise his wildly popular role as Prince Henry in a much-demanded sequel to Prime Video’s Red, White & Royal Blue.
To make matters even better, Taylor Zakhar Perez will reprise his role as son of the President of the United States (that’s Uma Thurman in a power suit, btw). Here’s everything we know so far about the Red, White & Royal Blue sequel.
A Red, White & Royal Blue Sequel Is In The Works
Nicholas Galitzine & Taylor Zakhar Perez Will Return
With the announcement of the film came the quick confirmation that Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez will star in the Red, White & Royal Blue sequel. The co-leads play Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz respectively, the Prince of England and the son of the US President, who embark on a secret love affair.
What Will Happen In The Red, White & Royal Blue Sequel?
No news just yet on what the plot will cover, but we expect to return to Alex and Henry, who we left just after Alex’s mother Ellen Claremont was re-elected as US President. While she seems to be totally onside with her son’s relationship with a British Prince, the same cannot be said for Henry’s family. In the first film, Henry’s grandfather King James III (played by none other than Stephen Fry) ruled that Alex and Henry cannot be together as their relationship is incompatible with royal tradition. Of course, the pair refuted his wishes, quickly revealing themselves as a couple to a crowd of well wishers outside the palace – but we’re sure some drama regarding his outdated opinions will resurface in the second film.
It’s A Departure From The Novel
Casey McQuiston, author of the novel Red, White & Royal Blue (on which the film is based) never wrote a sequel, so this new film will be entirely created by Prime Video. Matthew López, who made his feature debut with the first film, is back writing the script for the second. While McQuiston did not play a part in writing or producing the film version of her novel, she does have a cameo in the first film: as President Claremont’s speechwriter. And for the sequel, she is joining the script writing team, as well as executive producing. So even if there isn’t a novel to go off, the events of the Red, White & Royal Blue sequel will certainly be McQuiston approved.
Release Date
No release date just yet, but we’re hoping for a summer 2025 release.
