What The Hell Just Happened? Well, country-pop trio Remember Monday were revealed as the UK’s 2025 Eurovision entry – and that’s the name of their song

Eurovision 2025 is locked in: after Switzerland’s entry Nemo won with opera-hip-hop earworm ‘The Code’ in 2024, it’s over to Basel in 2025 where preparations are well underway. Here on British shores, we’ve been waiting with baited breath to find out which artist will be our entry after an, ahem, underwhelming few years. In 2019 and 2021, the UK came in last place, while Mae Muller (2023) and Olly Alexander (2024) made middling rankings. Of course, this is all spliced by a fluke in the form of Sam Ryder whose ‘Space Man’ was second only to Ukraine’s ‘Stefania’ in 2022, leading the UK to host the contest in Liverpool in 2023 amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Flash forward to now, and our next hope has been revealed: Remember Monday. Here’s everything you need to know about the self-described ‘pop girlies with a lil bit of yeehaw’. The country music renaissance continues…

Remember Monday: Introducing The UK’s 2025 Eurovision Entry

It’s official: country-pop trio Remember Monday is the UK’s 2025 Eurovision entry. Made up of Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steele, the trio met at sixth form in 2013 but didn’t pursue music full-time until 2023. Prior to that, all three had impressive West End musical theatre credits: Holly in productions of Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera; Charlotte in Mary Poppins; and Lauren in Matilda and on the nationwide tour of SIX The Musical.

Mainstays on the festival circuit, the trio embarked on their own tour in 2024, selling out all shows. Two EPs – Hysterical Women (2023) and Crazy Anyway (2024) – and countless TikToks later (garnering 11.3 million likes), Remember Monday have secured their highest profile gig to date: Eurovision.

Where Do I Recognise Them From?

This isn’t Remember Monday’s first TV rodeo: the trio previously competed on The Voice, earning buzzers from all four judges – Jennifer Hudson, Olly Murs, Tom Jones and will.i.am – thanks to their blind audition with a countryfied ‘Kiss From A Rose’ in 2019. They ultimately opted for EGOT Jennifer Hudson’s mentorship, making it to the quarter finals.

What The Hell Just Happened?

The UK’s Eurovision entry is ‘What The Hell Just Happened?’, Remember Monday’s latest single. The upbeat track chronicles the aftermath of a night out, and encapsulates the band’s signature blend of humour and harmonies. It was co-written with Thomas Stengaard, Julie ‘Kill J’ Aagaard and Tom Hollings and Sam Brennan (known collectively as Billen Ted, and previously having worked with Little Mix, Anne Marie and MNEK among many more).

‘What The Hell Just Happened is exactly how we’re feeling right now!’ the band tells the BBC. ‘It’s all very surreal. Our friendship goes so far back, and we definitely never imagined that we’d be doing anything like this. When you’re a kid and people ask you what you want to be when you grow up, an absolute classic is “I wanna be a pop star”, so the fact that we’re getting the chance to live that dream as three best friends is just wild.

‘We’re going to be the first girlband to represent the UK since 1999, which feels like such a crazy honour,’ the trio adds. ‘We’re going to bring loads of fun, energy and hopefully do something that you won’t have seen before on the Eurovision stage… We honestly can’t wait to experience this with all of the other incredible artists from around the world, and hopefully make everyone back at home feel proud! This is really the music World Cup and we’ll do our best to bring it home!’

Music industry figure David May, who led the search for the UK’s 2025 Eurovision entry, describes Remember Monday as ‘a true class act’ boasting ‘a combination of vocal prowess, charisma, professionalism, and unwavering drive’.

When Is Eurovision 2025?

Remember Monday will perform at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland. The Semi Finals will be hosted on Tuesday 13 and Thursday 15 May 2025, before the Grand Final on Saturday 17 May 2025. All three shows will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

In 2024, despite being part of the Big Five and getting automatic progression to the Grand Final, the UK performed its entry in the first of the two Semi Finals. No news just yet on whether the same will happen in 2025.
