When Will We See The Boys Season 5?

Season 4 may have just finished, but we’re already looking forward to more
Prime Video’s flagship TV series is a vigilante/superhero black comedy with an ensemble cast. Somewhat of a sleeper hit here in the UK, The Boys has garnered bucket loads of fans with every season, debuting in 2019 with the season 4 finale premiering last night (18 July). So, with season 4 wrapped up, only one question remains: will there be The Boys season 5? And when will we get to see it?

Has The Boys Been Renewed For Season 5?
Yes, Prime Video officially renewed The Boys for a fifth and final season in May 2024, just before season 4 kicked off on 13 June.
What Will Happen?
Spoilers for season 4 ahead.
The Boys season 4 ended on a darknote for our band of vigilantes, with Grace presumed dead, Butcher gone rogue and most of them captured by Vought. However, with showrunner Kripke describing the series as a three-act movie, this is the end of act two low point, and there’s light at the end of the tunnel yet. Indeed, we expect the boys to rise from the ashes and end season 5 at the very top.
As far as hints go, showrunner Eric Kripke told Variety he is ‘thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax’. He also told the LA Times that Homelander is ‘still going to be miserable’. We also know, as with the four previous seasons, The Boys season 5 will be made up of eight episodes.

Kripke also told Entertainment Weekly in 2022 that he couldn’t ‘imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy [Jensen Ackles] making another appearance’. After the character was spotted in a drug induced slumber in season 4, we think his season 5 return is all the more likely.

What Is The Boys Based On?
The Boys is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s adult superhero comic book series of the same name. It was originally published in 2006, with 72 total issues released between then and November 2012. The series was in development for a movie franchise as early as 2008, with Adam McKay set to direct a feature-length film trilogy adaptation of the comic books. However, that plan eventually fell apart. Flash forward to 2016, and the adaptation was revived as a TV series with Kripke brought on as showrunner, with Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg executive producing. Amazon Studios obtained the rights in 2017 and filming finally commenced in May 2018 for a summer 2019 release.
Will The Boys Season 5 Be The Last?
Yes, The Boys season 5 will conclude the Prime Video series. Two days before the premiere of season 4, showrunner Eric Kripke posted on X: ‘#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!’
He later told Variety: ‘It’s weird for this show to say, but it’s a slightly more introspective season. We always look at it in the three-act movie way as the end of Act 2 low point before the roller coaster ride of the climax. And I just wanted people to understand where it fit into the larger piece so that they kind of get what this season is supposed to be.’

Release Date
No news just yet on when we will see The Boys season 5. While the first two seasons were released only a year apart, it was a two year wait for season 3 and another two year wait for season 4. In June 2024, showrunner Eric Kripke told Variety: ‘It’s not totally locked in yet but we are going to start shooting around mid-November. And I don’t know when it’ll premiere yet, but we’ll be shooting well into the middle of ’25.’
Best case scenario? We will probably see The Boys season 5 in 2026.
Will There Be Gen V Season 2?
The Boys may be ending, but spin off Gen V is just entering its stride. Gen V was renewed by Prime Video for a second season back in October 2023, although we have no news just yet on when we will get to see it.
