It’s a Merseyside who-dunnit
From the producers of Line of Duty, Save Me and Vigil, a brand new thriller is coming soon to Channel 4 – and we can’t wait to see it. Here’s everything we know so far about The Gathering, plus when (and how) you can tune in for yourself.
Coming Soon: The Gathering, Channel 4
Said to be a series that ‘leans into the controversial and the provocative’, The Gathering was written by acclaimed novelist Helen Walsh (whose books include Brass, Once Upon A Time In England and The Lemon Grove) in her screenwriting debut. Centring on the intertwined lives of a group of teenagers, The Gathering examines their loyalties and rivalries, while asking how they can forge their own identity and maintain a sense of freedom while growing up under surveillance parenting.
What Is The Gathering About?
The Gathering centres on Kelly (Eva Morgan), a working class student in Merseyside who is attacked at an illicit rave on a tidal islet, which she attends with her friend Jessica (Sadie Soverall), her upper class gymnastics teammate who seemingly has it all. What ensues is a whodunnit – or it’s perhaps more apt to call it a why-dunnit – as The Gathering reveals the plethora of people, from disparate teenagers to their parents, with a motive for attacking Kelly.
Each episode delves into these motives and reveals more about Kelly’s life. She is an accomplished gymnast on the National Team pathway, and committed to her strict training regimen – but she also finds freedom in the joyous, unregulated work of free-running. As each character’s secrets and lies are revealed with each episode, the truth behind the attack on Kelly begins to emerge.
