What is The History Of Sound About?

Directed by South African filmmaker Oliver Hermanus, The History of Sound is adapted from a novella of the same name written by Massachusetts-based author Ben Shattuck. Set during World War I, the story follows two young men who decide to record the voices and songs of their countrymen, giving a striking insight into their lives. As they work together to log these fascinating stories, the two men begin to fall in love.

So far, all we know is that Paul Mescal will play the role of Lionel and Josh O’Connor will star as David. The rest of the cast is under wraps for now.

Release Date

Since work on The History Of Sound was pushed back due to scheduling conflicts after last year’s SAG-AFTRA strikes, the film is still in relatively early stages, so it might be a while before it lands in cinemas. You can, however, check out Ben Shattuck’s original short story to tide you over – it’s available to read online.
