All the details

Season 2 has officially ended with an explosive finale leaving lots of questions hanging in the air. Our top question, however, is this: when will we get to see The Rings of Power season 3? Here’s everything we know so far.

Will There Be The Rings Of Power Season 3?

No news just yet from Prime Video on whether there will be The Rings of Power season 3, but it’s looking likely. Before season 1 was even complete, Amazon Studios had sunk $1 billion into the project, making it the most expensive TV series of all time – so we’re sure the studio would like to continue fleshing out its investment.

Rumours suggest a five season plan is already in place for the Lord of the Rings prequel, while producers and showrunners have spoken positively about the future of the series.

‘I can’t say much about season 3, but I think there’ll be good news soon,’ executive producer Charlotte Brändström recently told Radio Times. Meanwhile, showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay recently told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘All we can say is we’re working on it. We’re cooking. Let us cook!’ Yes, chef.

What Will Happen?

The Rings of Power season 2 covered a lot of ground. A lot. And it also left a lot of loose ends – so the season 3 premiere alone would have a lot of paths to pursue.

Speaking to Radio Times, showrunner McKay has said: ‘What’s great about this era of Middle-earth’s history is that there are these incredible tentpole events. They’re laid out in the appendices in the books. Elrond talks about a lot of it at the Council of Elrond in the books. And we fashioned the show so that each season, moving forward from here, each series would be built around a couple of these major tentpole moments. This season [season 2], we’re doing the forging of the Rings, we’re doing Sauron and Celebrimbor, the deception of the Elven smiths and the Battle of Eregion – and you have to stay tuned to see what we do next time.’

The Rings Of Power Season 3 Release Date

If The Rings of Power is renewed for season 3, we think it will air at the end of 2026 at the very earliest.

There was a two year gap between the first two seasons, and even then season 2 had started filming before season 1 finished airing. Season 3 is unconfirmed, so filming has not yet started – and filming is complex due to various locations and sets, not to mention scheduling conflicts for the star-studded cast.
