…and it’s finally being released

When Lisa Taddeo’s debut book hit the shelves back in July 2019, it was an immediate hit. A narrative non-fiction book, Three Women traces the sexual and emotional lives of three separate women, all with very different backgrounds. A TV adaptation has been in the works since July 2019, too – and soon we will finally be able to see it. Here’s exactly what you need to know.

Three Women TV Series: Plot, Cast, Release Date

Originally commissioned by Showtime, Three Women was filmed years ago now, with the channel announcing in January 2023 that it would not be airing the completed series. Instead, Starz snapped up the 10-episode project in February 2023 – but it still never made it to our screens. After airing in Australia at the start of the year, now in summer 2024, we’re pleased to report Three Women will start streaming very soon.

What Is Three Women About?

Three Women centres on the sexual and emotional lives of three very different women. There’s Lina, a homemaker in suburban Indiana who is a decade into a passionless marriage; then she embarks on an all-consuming affair with an old high school flame that quickly takes over her life. Sloane is a glamorous entrepreneur in the Northeast who has a committed open marriage with Richard, until two sexy new strangers threaten their love story. And finally, there’s Maggie, a North Dakota student who weathers an intense storm after accusing her married English teacher of an inappropriate relationship.

Diverging slightly from the book, Lina, Sloane and Maggie are on a crash course to radically overturn their lives, and this is where they meet grieving writer Gia – who is akin to real author Lisa Taddeo – who persuades each of these three ordinary yet spectacular women to tell her their stories. Across 10 episodes, Three Women illustrates how Gia’s relationships with Lina, Sloane and Maggie change the course of her life forever.

Is It Based On A Book?

Yes, Three Women is based on Lisa Taddeo’s bestselling book of the same name. While the TV series introduces a framing narrative – with Gia’s presence explaining why we are delving into their stories – Taddeo is onboard as a writer and executive producer, so we can expect it to remain faithful to the 2019 book.

Is It Based On A True Story?

Yes, Taddeo’s book is narrative nonfiction, based on the lives of three real women she kept in touch with over the course of nearly a decade.
