What to book now

It’s officially 2025, which means there’s a whole year of fantastic theatre ahead. From Disney to Shakespeare, 2025 has it all, so if you’re curious about what’s arriving on the London stage then look no further. Here are our top picks on the West End in 2025.

What To See On The West End 2025

Disney’s Hercules

Based on the animated 1997 movie, Disney’s Hercules takes over the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from Frozen The Musical after three years (with a brief interlude of Sigourney Weaver’s The Tempest followed by Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell in Much Ado About Nothing). Based on the well-known Greek myth, the musical centres on the half human, half God hero who must fight for his place on Olympus despite the machinations of his adversary, Hades. Packed with comedy, romance, adventure and music, Hercules is directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, with songs by Alan Menken and David Zippel, and joins the likes of Hadestown and multiple Oedipus adaptations in a Greek renaissance of sorts.

My Neighbour Totoro

Having already bagged six Olivier awards, My Neighbour Totoro will return to London in March 2025 after debuting at the Barbican Theatre at the end of 2023. A magical and tender tale based on the 1988 Studio Ghibli film of the same name, expect to be reminded of what it was like to be a child. Two sisters move to the countryside and discover their new home is occupied by ‘soot sprites’. The more they explore their surroundings, the further embroiled they become in a fantastical world of spirits and magic.

Details: From 8 March 2025 at the Gillian Lynne Theatre (166 Drury Lane, London WC2B 5PW). Book your tickets at lwtheatres.co.uk

Titanique

Described as a ‘hysterical musical fantasia’ featuring much-loved hits like ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and ‘All By Myself’, this is the ultimate, high camp voyage to embark on in 2025. A romp across history, Titanique dares to ask: what if Céline Dion was aboard the Titanic, too? Created by the Broadway performers Marla Mindelle and Constatine Rousouli and directed by Tye Blue, the production began as a friendly joke and grew into the theatrical celebration that it is now. And it’s already running. All aboard!

Details: Until 2 March at the Criterion Theatre (218-223 Piccadilly, London W1J 9HR). Book your tickets at london.titaniquemusical.com

The Seagull

Cate Blanchett and Tom Burke navigating a fraught romance on stage – who wouldn’t want to see that? The Seagull brings Anton Chekov’s famed play back to the West End in 2025, celebrated as one of the greatest productions in Russian theatre. Toeing the line between tragedy and comedy, tensions constantly simmer below the surface in The Seagull. We centre on Arkadina (Blanchett), her lover Trigorin (Burke), her playwright son Konstantin (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and aspiring young actress, Nina (Emma Morrin) who arrive at Arkadina’s family estate. Across one weekend, a web of desires, disappointments and vanities intersect.

Richard II

Wicked has been a major success, breaking multiple box office records across the globe. But if you’d like to see more Jonathan Bailey, your next chance will be in a slightly more stern adaptation: Richard II at the Bridge Theatre, an adaptation of Shakspeare’s classic based on the very real English king who ruled in the late 14th century. Tracing a life full of notoriety, scandal and secrets, Bailey joins a roster of famed Richard IIs, including Ian McKellen, Maurice Evans and Mark Rylance.

Meet Jay Gatsby, the mysterious host of riotous parties, laden with extravagance, wealth and pizazz. Directed by Marc Bruni and produced by Chunsoo Shin, this new musical – which is already a hit on Broadway – is arriving on London’s West End in April 2025. Fizzing with energy and life, this jazz-inspired extravaganza is, of course, based on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, set in 1920s New York.

Gather the whole family – including anyone who claims not to like Dirty Dancing but secretly listens to Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes on repeat – and step back in time to the summer of ‘63. Fall in love all over again with Johnny and Baby’s romance, tender and sexy in equal parts. Featuring a live band and sensual choreography, you’re going to have the ‘time of your life’.
