Yellowjackets is finally back for season 3, just under two years after the explosive and unsettling season 2 finale. Here’s what to expect – plus where you can stream it from the UK
Don’t watch Yellowjackets while you’re eating dinner – we learned that the hard way. This eerie drama flits between 1996 and 2021, tracing the fallout of a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness, with a team of New Jersey high school girls soccer players grappling to survive for 19 months. Then we jump to the present, where the trauma of the ordeal continues to impact the lives of the survivors. Why were they stranded for so long, totally lost to the authorities? We’re not quite sure – but we’re hoping season 3 will finally reveal all.

What Will Happen?
The last we saw in Yellowjackets was the cabin engulfed in flames, leaving the team unsheltered in the wilderness once more. However, Yellowjackets season 3 picks up in the summer, where the plane crash survivors have rebuilt their mini civilisation, cultivating wooden huts, a garden and even a rabbit and duck farm.
‘Ultimately, it boiled down to really wanting a reset,’ series co-creator Ashley Lyle tells Variety. ‘It felt to us as though the best way to just make a clean break was to do the time jump. And we had played around with the idea of doing flashbacks during Van’s storytelling hour, but ultimately, we thought that that sort of undermined the power of the break and of the reset.
‘Also, frankly, from a purely producorial standpoint, to recreate the winter in the summer is not an easy thing to do,’ Lyle continues. ‘We knew we wanted to have as many resources as possible for a number of things that we knew were coming up, and frankly, them in the snow – keeping things up – it just didn’t feel worth it. It felt as though it was more fun to just dive right in.’
The resourcefulness of the team is implied, and new narrative threads are tugged at instead – arguably more interesting than pure survival. Sophie Nélisse, who plays young Shauna, was reportedly ‘shocked’ at the time jump decision, but tells Variety the result ultimately felt even more compelling. ‘Actually, it’s even more eerie and frightening, because you’re like, surely there are cracks somewhere,’ Nélisse says. ‘It can’t be rainbows and fairy tales and sunshine. So I think it makes it even scarier, because you know that what’s lying underneath is even more problematic.’

Yellowjackets Season 3 Release Schedule
Yellowjackets returned for season 3 with a double bill on 16 February 2025. The remaining eight episodes will air weekly on Sunday evenings until the season finale on 13 April 2025. The Yellowjackets season 3 release schedule is as follows:

Will There Be Yellowjackets Season 4?
No news just yet on whether Yellowjackets will be renewed for season 4, but things are looking positive. The blood-soaked wilderness drama is one of Showtime’s most successful series, so we’re sure they’ll want to hold onto it for as long as possible. It all just depends on series creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson: where will they leave season 3? Will everything be wrapped up by the finale? Or will they drop a new bombshell to blow the series wide open once again? Only time will tell…
