If you love food and you love walking, book your tickets to Norfolk Walk With a Fork, a unique walking/foodie tour of Walsingham Abbey. Throughout the eight-mile walk, which will take you around the glorious grounds and gardens of Walsingham Abbey, you’ll be treated to some of the most delicious food in Norfolk, showing what the county has to offer. Walk With a Fork is being put on by Ormiston Families, a leading charity supporting children, young people and their families throughout life’s challenges. The charity is made up of four programmes – The Nurture Programme, which offers support to children in the first few years of their lives; The Engage Programme, supporting young children in education; The Unite Programme, which focusses support on families who are affected by imprisonment; and finally, The Connect Programme, which helps to strengthen ties between the local community and the people living within it. Ormiston Families has taken the Walk With a Fork series to other places in England, popping up in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, and this month, it’s bringing its great cause to Norfolk.
The setting of this fun foodie day out is Walsingham Abbey, a historical landmark. Its gardens are ethereal and rich, full of history and boasting a storied past. Its grounds was one of the first places of pilgrimage in medieval England, and the abbey is famous for its rugged ruins. Fast forward to the 17th-century and Walsingham Abbey (then just a country house) was built over these ruins. Then, later in the 19th-century, gardens were landscaped around it and now, the views from the historic house are unparallel and Spring is known to be the absolute best time to visit it.
Whilst you’re walking, you’ll stop along the way at quirky stalls that the local, independent makers of Walsingham have prepared. These food pit-stops will re-energise you on your eight-mile walk and give you a taste of fresh, locally produced Norfolk food and drink.
