Stars including Timothée Chalamet and Demi Moore will be served this three-course meal
On 16 February, everyone from to Ariana Grande to Hugh Grant to Saoirse Ronan will be heading to London’s Southbank Centre to find out whether they’ve won a BAFTA. It’s one the most star-studded events on the UK’s calendar – but what will all these A-listers be eating and drinking? We got the lowdown on the 2025 BAFTAs menu from this year’s catering company, Caper & Berry.
A Preview Of The 2025 BAFTAs Menu
Cooking for hundreds of celebrities is no mean feat, but Caper & Berry has it down to a tee, having catered for the BAFTA awards for the past few years. So when does the planning begin?
‘The actual preparation begins almost nine months in advance with the BAFTA team coming in for menu discussions and tastings,’ a representative tells C&TH. ‘As with all events, it is very much a team effort between departments.’
Naturally, there are multiple practice runs to ensure the team are prepped for any eventuality. ‘We are fortunate to have a fantastic relationship with the BAFTA team, the venue, and their suppliers, so will have weekly meetings in the run up to the awards ceremony to ensure we are all on the same page; stress testing every eventuality to ensure the event is fail safe,’ they added. ‘This covers everything from transport and logistics, kitchen setups, roles and responsibilities, and the food/drink offering.’
Once the table plan has been agreed, the catering team are informed about any dietary requirements, and can plan menu adaptations accordingly.
What’s On The 2025 BAFTAs Menu?
For the third year running, this year’s event will kick off with a vegan starter of Sussex mushroom parfait with pickled shimigi mushroom, vegan caviar and sourdough. This will be followed with a roast chicken main, served with spiced chicken terrine, fire roasted carrot, saffron potato, date puree, madeira jus and alyssum.
Vegetarian and vegan guests, meanwhile, will be served a roast crown prince (a type of squash) with brown butter potato and fennel seed pavé, zero-waste root bhaji, cultured yogurt and scorched broccoli.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the meal, though, is the pudding: a ‘Bafta Popcorn Sundae’, made with cheesecake cream, vanilla sponge and salted caramel popcorn, served in an edible popcorn tub.
What Time Is The Meal Served?
The BAFTAs broadcast usually runs for two hours on BBC One, from 7 – 9pm, AKA the dinner window. So how do the stars keep their hunger at bay? Well, the awards aren’t streamed live: the event is actually filmed slightly earlier in the day before being edited for the BBC, which means the celebrities’ dinner can be served at a reasonable time.
‘Guests arrive at the venue and are welcomed with a refreshing drink, before moving into the auditorium for the awards ceremony,’ Caper & Berry’s representative tells us. ‘Once this is over, guests are welcomed downstairs to the meal. This is usually around 8pm.’
What Drinks Are On Offer?
Naturally, there’s always plenty of champagne going round at the BAFTAs – this year coming from Taittinger, the 2025 sponsor. There will also be red and white wine, as well as tequila cocktails from drinks partner Don Julio.
What Do The Table Displays Look Like?
How do you create an A-list tablescape? It’s all down to the florist and production team, we’re told, with a muted, earthy palette on the cards this year: think textured stone napkins, alongside clear crystal glassware and silver cutlery.
Which Eco Initiatives Are Being Introduced?
Caper & Berry is big on green initiatives, and continually looks for ways to reduce the environmental impact of its events. ‘Having recently been accredited in the Environmental Management System ISO14001, our business as a whole has introduced eco initiatives throughout our operations, which naturally filter down to BAFTA events,’ the company explains. For instance, there are refillable carton water and water stations dotted around, and staff are encouraged to bring their own water bottles to reduce single-use plastic on site.
Following the event, the business will be doing a deep dive into the carbon footprint of the event, in order to help improve in future. ‘This year, we will be performing our first Carbon Impact Report for the BAFTA Film Awards whereby we can identify our eco hot spots and look at the areas we can adapt to have a more positive impact, moving forward,’ Caper & Berry’s representative tells us. ‘This will cover all areas of the catering including staffing, food sourcing and menu choices, equipment hire, and travel and transport.’
