How To Make ABC Juice

What Is ABC Juice?

ABC juice is a simple juice made with three key ingredients: apple, beetroot and carrot. These fruits and veggies are chopped up and juiced or blended, usually along with lemon and ginger, for a drink to nourish you from the inside out.

What Are The Benefits?

Boosts gut health

All three key ingredients offer gut health benefits. Apples are low on the glycemic index thanks to their fibre content (particularly a soluble fibre called pectin), while beetroot contains glutamine, an acid which is essential for good digestive function. Carrots are also high in fibre, and have a prebiotic effect. Plus, the addition of ginger helps soothe the stomach.

Supports eye health

You may have heard the old wives’ tale that carrots make you see in the dark, but it comes from truth: carrots are a great source of dietary carotenoids, which are important for eyesight. Beetroot, meanwhile, contains nitrates and antioxidants which can help combat eye conditions.

May improve skin

There’s been a lot of talk on TikTok about the skin benefits of ABC juice. Skin health is a complex topic, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but there’s plenty of goodness in this drink that could theoretically give you a glow. It’s high in vitamins C, K and B, all of which offer revitalising properties for the skin, plus good gut health is linked with good skin.

Should You Juice Or Blend?

The juicing vs blending question has long been debated. Juicing involves removing all the solid parts of the fruits and vegetables then extracting the juice through squeezing, pressing or grinding, resulting in a smoother drink, while blending sees the ingredients mixed together, creating a thick consistency. So which is better for our health?

There are benefits to both. Juicing removes a lot of the fibre, but there’s often a higher concentration of vitamins and minerals – and drinks can be easier to digest. Blending, meanwhile, retains more of the ingredients, creating a fibre-rich drink.

ABC Juice Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple
  • ½ raw beetroot
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger root, grated
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Method:

  1. Wash the apple, beetroot and carrot.
  2. Peel the beetroot.
  3. Chop the apple, beetroot and carrot into chunks.
  4. If you’re using a juicer, process the apple, beetroot and carrot through the juicer to extract the juice. Mix in a squeeze of lemon juice and the grated ginger.
  5. If you’re using a blender, put all the ingredients in a food processor, along with a cup of water. Blend until it has a smoothie-like consistency.
