Whether you’re after a fine dining experience, a trendy wine bar, a relaxed pub or a cosy cafe, Manchester has plenty to offer when it comes to dining out. But which spots should you prioritise during a weekend there? We asked Ben Chaplin, head chef of Salford pub The Black Friar, to share his top recommendations for the best restaurants in Manchester.

Whether you’re in for a quick bite or a long, leisurely meal, this spot never disappoints.

10 Tib Lane, City Centre
A hidden treasure in the heart of the city, 10 Tib Lane excels in every aspect – food, drinks and service. The ambiance is intimate and stylish, making it an ideal spot for a special night out. My wife and I had one of the best meals we’ve had in Manchester here, sharing the whole trout dish alongside a few bottles of expertly selected wine. The menu is inventive yet comforting, and it’s clear the team behind it knows exactly what they’re doing.

Skof, City Centre
One of Manchester’s most exciting new additions, Skof has been making waves on social media with its beautifully plated dishes and creative menus. The attention to detail in both flavour and presentation is second to none, and it’s no surprise that it has gained a loyal following in such a short time. I’ve seen some amazing pictures online and have read glowing reviews – can’t wait to get in here! Huge congratulations to Tom and the team on achieving their Michelin star.

Leo + Roobs, Blackfriars Road
This neighbourhood café is a fantastic spot for both sit-down meals and quick takeout. They have a convenient hatch for those on the go, but it’s well worth sitting in to enjoy their relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The crispy chicken katsu sandwich is an absolute knockout – perfectly crunchy, juicy, and packed with flavour. A great place for a casual but satisfying bite.

The Pack Horse, Hayfield
A little outside of Manchester city centre, but well worth the trip, The Pack Horse in Hayfield is everything you’d want in a gastropub. Luke, Emma and their team consistently deliver incredible food in a warm and welcoming setting. Their take on the Manchester egg is a must-try: a delicious spin on the classic scotch egg that’s packed with flavour. If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by and experience what this fantastic team is doing.
