This Suffolk Spot Has Been Declared The UK’s Best Gastropub

Fancy a roast in the country’s top foodie pub? Book a trip to Suffolk, where The Unruly Pig has been crowned the UK’s top gastropub, topping Estrella Damm’s 2024 list for the second time.

Located on the outskirts of the pretty town of Woodbridge, the winning pub first entered the Top 50 list back in 2017, going onto win ‘highest climber’ in 2021, and securing first place in 2022. The kitchen is led by chef-patron Dave Wall and head chef Karl Green, who focus on local, seasonal British food with an Italian influence. The a la carte menu includes dishes like venison wellington, ricotta gnocchi and Iberico pork with mash and swede, alongside a Sunday roast, and a tasting menu on Thursdays.

It was followed by The Cornish Arms in Tavistock, Devon, with Paul Ainsworth’s The Mariners in Rock, Cornwall, coming in third place. 

A number of London pubs also featured on the list, including Highgate’s Red Lion and Sun, which came in at number six. The capital’s only Michelin-starred pub, The Harwood Arms, was also named, alongside The Bull and Last in Dartmouth Park, and Islington’s The Baring. Kentish Town’s The Parakeet, which opened last year, was a new entry, coming in at number 36. 

The prestigious list is voted for by a panel of food experts, industry figures and journalists from all over the UK.
