From Michelin-starred hotel restaurants to seaside eateries in Whitby and cosy cafes in Harrogate, the region is filled with great places to eat. And who better to guide you on a foodie tour than local husband-and-wife duo Richard and Lindsey Johns? The pair have over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, and currently run a gastropub called The Plough in Wombleton – which features in both the Michelin Guide and the Good Food Guide. Skosh, York
A restaurant that needs little introduction, Skosh is a superb independently owned and operated eatery – possibly the best restaurant in York. Neil and his team do a stellar job turning out superb plates of food which have Asian-flavoured undertones. The place is always packed, so book ahead!

A fantastic spot for breakfast or lunch. I’ve pretty much tried the whole menu – it’s full of flavour bombs.

Five Houses Farm Shop & Kitchen, Yarm
A lovely spot for lunch, coffee and cake. They offer superb pastries and sandwiches to takeaway, and the roast pork belly sandwich is a winner.

An outstanding daytime cafe owned and operated by a husband-and-wife team. I have enjoyed many a quality breakfast and lunch here over the years, it’s our go-to place in Helmsley and never disappoints. We always share an old joke with owner Andrew, that we should have shares in the place!
