The team behind Medlar are back with a second venture

Word of a new rooftop in London always piques our interest, but this one is particularly exciting. Primed to launch in the capital this August is Cornus, the second restaurant from the duo behind esteemed Chelsea eatery Medlar, David O’Connor and Joe Mercer Nairne.

Cornus: Eccleston Yards’ New Rooftop Restaurant

Located atop Grosvenor’s five-floored repurposed warehouse The Ice Factory at Eccleston Yards, Cornus will open its doors on 6 August 2024 following a soft launch period. The warehouse’s interiors have been transformed by design company Day Studio (who created the look for Islington’s Trullo), with a glamorous, mid-century modern aesthetic, plus floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the London skyline.

Executive chef Gary Foulkes – who previously headed up Michelin-starred Angler – will be leading the kitchen, cooking up a regularly changing menu centred around British and European seasonal produce. With its roots in the principles of traditional French cuisine, the food offering will include starters such as sea bass tartare, and spaghetti with native lobster and Amalfi lemon. For mains, diners can enjoy dishes like Lake District lamb with romero pepper piperade, and roast chicken with Scottish langoustines, plus a sharing côte de beouf sourced from the Butcher’s Block in Banstead.

Head pastry chef Kelly Cullen will be curating a selection of elevated comfort desserts: think creamed rice pudding with caramelised oat milk, and mille-feuille with baked raspberry ice cream, alongside cheeses from Buchanans Cheesemonger in London.

On the drinks side, former Medlar sommelier Melania Battiston and Lukasz Gorski – currently the World Young Sommelier of the Year – will be curating a wine list that spotlights unique and premium vintages. Guests will also have the option to bring their own bottles via the restaurant’s corkage service, or choose from an array of classic cocktails.

‘We have been finessing the Cornus offering for a number of years and we are incredibly excited to finally bring this to fruition,’ says O’Connor. ‘What we are creating builds on the Medlar reputation while delivering a fresh perspective on French dining to Belgravia. Superior service will always be at the heart of what we do, and Cornus will be the destination for easy lunches, long dinners and everything in between. There is a harmony between Gary’s elevated menu and the unique wine offering from Melania that comes to life in this light-filled rooftop, creating something special we cannot wait to share with guests soon.’

Cornus will open at 27c Eccleston Place, Belgravia on 6 August 2024.
