We all have our favourite pubs – but which ones are primed to be award winners? The nominations for The Great British Pub Awards are in, and nine London haunts have been shortlisted.

The Great British Pub Awards: Who Has Been Shortlisted?

A total of 97 finalists have been named in the shortlist, with categories including Best City/Urban Pub, Best Pub for Entertainment, Best Pub to Watch Sport, Community Hero, Greene King Pub of the Year, and Stonegate Group Pub Partners Pub of the Year.

In the running for the Best City/Urban Pub award is The Audley Public House in Mayfair, which opened recently following a restoration from Artfarm, the hospitality arm of Hauser & Wirth. The chic space is decked out with art aplenty, including a standout mosaic on the ceiling from London-based artist Phyllida Barlow. British chef Jamie Shears heads up the kitchen, focusing on traditional pub fare made with top-quality ingredients.

Other pubs shortlisted for this category include The Kings Arms in Bexleyheath, The George IV in Chiswick and The Turk’s Head in Twickenham.

The Alexandra in Wimbledon, meanwhile, could be taking home the Community Hero award. The family-run pub is known for its charitable initiatives, including its yearly tradition of serving a free Christmas dinner to anyone who is spending the day on their own.

The Kings Arms was also shortlisted for the Best Pub for Entertainment category – it hosts a regular programme of events such as wine and charcuterie evenings, quizzes and bingo nights. Also in this category was The Phoenix Arts Club in Soho, known for its lively cabaret and theatrical performances. Elsewhere, the aptly named Sports Bar & Grill in Canary Wharf could be taking home the gong for Best Pub to Watch Sport.

Guy Earl of Warwick in Welling, meanwhile, could be awarded Greene King Pub of the Year, and The Woodman in Pinner has been shortlisted for Stonegate Group Pub Partners of the Year.

Last year, a pub in West Sussex called The Gun Inn struck gold as the overall winner for Great British Pub of the Year. The only London winner was The Famous Three Kings in Fulham, who was named the best sports pub.

The Great British Pub Awards are one of the most prestigious awards in the drinks industry, with nominees examined in a thorough judging process by a panel of experts. The results will be announced in a ceremony in Manchester on 19 September.
