A grand salon bar that looks the part of a story-book country house and boasts a secluded cigar terrace and stylish cocktail list….
We love a good ‘country-meets-city’ concept, and when Martin Brudnizki is designing it, we like it even more. Housed within The Bloomsbury hotel, a Sir Edwin Lutyens, Grade-II listed building, bright coral coloured walls are as advertised. Five Murano glass chandeliers, as well as a fused glass and marble topped bar glint among swaths of coral. The best bit has to be that Luke Edward Hall is everywhere –36 bespoke pieces of original art line the walls and call back to Bloomsbury heritage.

Giovanni Spezziga, formerly of Scarfes Bar at the Rosewood London, manages the lounge, which offers an extensive English sparkling wine list. The wine emphasises local vineyards while the cocktails are an homage to both the countryside and the city in highball and spritz-style form.
Don’t miss the Midtown Swizzle with Havana Especial Rum, Lustau Sherry, Passion Fruit Puree, Lime Juice, Pineapple Syrup and English Sparkling Wine (£15). Other favourites include Big Smoke (Ancho Reyes Tequila, Quiquiriqui Mezcal, Orange Chili Syrup, Chipotle Tincture and Ginger Ale for £13); Green Fingers (Stolichnaya Vodka, Kale Juice, Pineapple Juice, Ginger Syrup, Lime Juice, Agave Syrup for £12); and Barbour and Barrel (Jim Beam Double Oak Bourbon, Honey, Ginger Syrup, Pineapple Juice, Lemon Juice, Egg White for £12).

Small plates, available from 11am – 10:30pm, are ideal accompaniments to a glass or two. Chicory Salad, Walnuts, Pear, Cashel Blue, Honey & Mustard Dressing (£8.00); Seared Tuna, Wasabi Mayo (£11.00); and Lobster & Crayfish Mac’n’Cheese (£12.00) are a savoury fix while a Chocolate Eclair (£6.00) could never go amiss. Ah, country living….
