Delicious ways to mark the colourful Hindu festival

Also known as the festival of colours, Holi is a feel-good celebration of spring, love and new life. The Hindu holiday takes place every year on the last full moon in the lunar month of Phalguna, which falls on 14 March in 2025. Festivities are particularly big in South Asian countries like India and Nepal, where people herald in the start of the new season by throwing coloured powders at one another, dancing and singing. But you can also get involved with the fun in London by heading to one of the Holi parties popping up at restaurants across the city, complete with vibrant food, drinks and entertainment. Read on for London’s best Holi menus for 2025.

Babur

Forest Hill institution Babur is marking Holi with a five-course tasting menu, inspired by the influential Indian songs, objects and artforms that often feature in celebrations. Savour Rang Barse Dahi Vada, for instance, is a lentil doughnut dish made with tamarind and pomegranate which pays homage to a popular Holi song from a 1980s Hindu film. The Pichkari Butter Chicken Tart, meanwhile, is named after the water gun used to spray colour during Holi. And dessert is Rangoli Gulab Jamun Ki Chat: multicoloured milk dumplings adorned with betel leaf and sugared rose petals reminiscent of the decorations laid at the entrance of homes during the festival. There will also be Thandai cocktails and live entertainment.
