Hot Air Balloon Dining Popping Up At This Hotel Just Outside London

Fancy afternoon tea in a hot air balloon? Well, this summer you can do just that, as The Grove’s Feast on Cloud 9 dining experience is returning, following a popular run last year.

Hertfordshire hotel The Grove is a beautiful spot to visit year-round, but it’s set to get even prettier this May as a collection of red-and-white striped hot air balloons land beside the ornamental canal. 

While you’ll remain on the ground, the pop-up promises a fun, unique foodie experience whereby you can dine within the beautifully designed, custom-made hot air balloons. It’s an undeniably Instagram-friendly setting, but it’s not all style over substance: there’s also an impressive menu to dive into.

You can opt for either afternoon tea or a decadent nine-course tasting menu set under the stars. The former will be served from 12 – 3pm daily, featuring an array of finger sandwiches, scones and seaside-themed cakes, with the option to add champagne. 

Then, come dusk, Feast on Cloud 9 will turn into a fine dining experience. The evening will kick off with some canapes and a welcome drink, before embarking on a gastronomic journey.

You’ll enjoy dishes like roasted Cornish cod with straw potatoes and seaweed ketchup, lobster en croute with fennel and cucumber ceviche, roasted aubergine with truffled mashed potato, and vanilla panna cotta with strawberry soup tea cups. Wine pairings are also available – and there’s a children’s menu for diners under the age of 12.

The experience is available for groups of two to six – perfect for date night or a fun night out with friends this summer. It’s a project from Feast, a company which creates experiential events with a focus on food.

The Grove is a five-star hotel set in the rolling Hertfordshire countryside, just outside of London. It’s home to four restaurants, plus a standout spa and golf course.
