This Tuscan-inspired chicken soup is TikTok's latest food obsession
Near the end of 2023, TikTok was awash with videos of Marry Me Chicken: a dish so tasty it might just elicit a ring. And now soup is getting the proposal treatment, with an influx of recipe videos for heart-warming concoctions made with the same flavours as the original chicken hit. Whether you’re on a mission to make your dinner guest fall for you, or simply fancy a delicious, warming soup recipe for winter, here’s how to get involved with the burgeoning food trend.
Marry Me Soup: TikTok’s Latest Proposal-Worthy Dish
What Is Marry Me Soup?
Marry Me Soup is a twist on the original Marry Me Chicken dish that took over TikTok last year, a Tuscan-inspired number which was made with chicken, cream, sun-dried tomatoes and parmesan cheese. Chefs are now taking some of the same flavours and using them to create soup recipes, some containing chicken, others veggie – and most adding pasta into the mix, making them a heartier (and let’s be honest, tastier) dinner option.
Just like Marry Me Chicken, the trend has gone viral, with recipes racking up millions of views. Take this one from @thepalatablelife, for instance, captioned: ‘who needs tinder when you have this soup’, which has over 2.1 million views. Another popular version comes from @plantyou, captioned ‘a soup worth proposing over’, a vegetarian soup made with shell pasta, sweet potato and leeks.

Recipe: Marry Me Soup
We’ve collated some of TikTok’s best-loved Marry Me Soup recipes into the ultimate C&TH edition. This one is made with chicken, but you can make it vegetarian by removing the chicken and swapping the chicken stock for a veggie alternative.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 stick of celery
- ½ cup of sun-dried tomatoes (around 6 – 8)
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 4 cups chicken stock
- 1 ½ cups cream
- 200g chicken breast, chopped into small bite-sized chunks
- 1 cup spinach
- 250g orecchiette (or another small pasta)
- 100g parmesan, grated
- Salt
- Pepper
Method:
- In a large pot, heat your olive oil. Add the onion, celery, sun-dried tomatoes and garlic, and season with salt and pepper. Cook until softened.
- Chop your chicken and add it to the pan, along with the tomato paste. Stir and cook until the chicken starts to brown, then add chicken broth and let it simmer until the chicken is cooked through.
- Add the cream and parmesan, stirring until the cheese is melted and the soup becomes creamy.
- Add the dry pasta, cover the pot and simmer until the pasta is cooked (check the label of the one you’re using, usually around 10 – 12 minutes).
- In the final minute, add the spinach.
- Serve hot and garnish.
