It’s all systems go for Gordon Ramsay right now. Not only has the superchef just opened five new sky-high ventures at 22 Bishopsgate, he’s also secured a 15-year lease for a new restaurant on the site of Le Gavroche in Mayfair.

Set to open later this year, the new Upper Brook Street restaurant will be helmed by one of Ramsay’s protégés, Australia-born Matt Abé, who currently works as chef patron at the three Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. This is the first solo venture for Abé, who has spent 18 years climbing the ranks at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay after landing a job at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s aged 21.
He described the opportunity to open his own eatery as ‘a dream come true’, thanking Ramsay for his support and ‘the faith he has shown in me’.

Le Gavroche stood as one of London’s most famous restaurants for 56 years before closing its doors in January 2024 under the leadership of Michel Roux Jr. A string of top chefs graced its kitchen over the years, including Ramsay himself, who worked as a commis chef at Le Gavroche under the late Albert Roux in the ‘80s.
‘Le Gavroche holds some incredible memories from my early career,’ said Ramsay. ‘When I heard the property was going to be available, it felt like the right moment to support Matt and come full circle with a restaurant that I loved so much.’
‘It has been incredible watching Matt grow throughout the 18 years we have worked together. He is such a talent and now is absolutely the right time for him to take this next step in his career.’
Details of the name, concept and menu are yet to be revealed. ‘This is now Matt’s story to tell,’ Ramsay told the Standard. ‘And I’m sure [there will be] more news soon.’
The restaurant will open later this year at 43 Upper Brook Street, Mayfair, W1K 7QR
