The foodie launches not to miss this month

On the hunt for some cool new dining spots to add to your list this summer? Exciting restaurants are popping up in London all the time. Here are the new London restaurants to have on your radar this June, including a Parisian-inspired bistro from Jackson Boxer, a relaxed fish restaurant in Finsbury Park and more.

London Restaurant Openings: June 2024

Plate of food at Henri restaurant

Henri, Covent Garden

Acclaimed chef Jackson Boxer, who runs Orasay in Notting Hill, is opening a new eatery within the Henrietta Experimental hotel in Covent Garden. This is Boxer’s second collaboration with the group: the two recently collaborated on Cowley Manor Experimental in the Cotswolds. Their latest partnership, Henri, will draw on Parisian bistros, with interiors from designer Dorothée Meilichzon alongside an eclectic menu from Boxer. Guests can choose between a selection of small and large plates from the charcoal grill, or a more traditional three-course affair: think French classics like fried Pied de Cochon with agen prune and beer mustard, grilled snails with green garlic and veal rice, and steak frites.

Opening 17 June 2024, 14, 15 Henrietta St, London WC2E 8QH. henriettahotel.com

The Park, Bayswater

Following the sale of his restaurant group Corbin & King, veteran restaurateur Jeremy King is ‘getting back on the saddle’ (his words). This June, he’s opening a new restaurant called The Park, which will take inspiration from European grand cafes. This is familiar territory for King, who has opened numerous brasseries over the years including perhaps the capital’s most famous one of all, The Wolseley. In an email to his mailing list, he wrote that The Park will be ‘very much within the “Grand Cafés & Brasseries” mould that I love so much but it is however very much of the early 21st Century rather than 20th.’ The restaurant will open within the new Park Modern building opposite Kensington Palace Gardens.

Opening late June, 123 Bayswater Road, W2 3JH

Akira Back

Akira Back at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair

Michelin-starred Korean chef Akira Back is making his first foray into London, with two new openings coming to the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. The first is the eponymous Akira Back restaurant, a Japanese eatery showcasing some of his greatest hits, from the famous AB Tuna Pizza to the 28 Hour Short Ribs, alongside some new dishes exclusive to London, such as a wagyu tempura wellington. Alongside this, Back will be bringing his chef’s table concept Dosa to the capital, serving an array of Korean dishes in a counter-style format, with a set menu inspired by the four seasons.

Tollington’s, Finsbury Park

Ed McIlroy, the name behind the popular Plimsoll pub in Finsbury Park, is back with a new fish bar, Tollington’s on Stroud Green Road. He’ll be giving the classic fish and chips concept a European twist, taking inspiration from regional Spanish cuisine and culture. The menu will focus on seafood, with plates of cured, fresh and fried fish and shellfish, alongside a few cuts of meat. ‘We want people to come in, have a drink, lean on a ledge and have a quick bite or stay for a while and enjoy some big plates around a table,’ said McIlroy. ‘There won’t be any frills, just good food and a place we want locals and visitors to eat, drink and have a good time. It’s as simple as that.’

Opening late June, 172 Tollington Park, N4 3AJ

Jones & Sons, South Woodford

You might recognise the original Jones & Sons as the filming location for Boiling Point, the most stressful cooking drama on TV. But don’t worry: a meal there is a much less stress-inducing affair – and now the group is launching a second venue, this time heading east to South Woodford. Head chef Kieran Hope and his team will be cooking up a similar menu to the original, with a focus on seasonal British produce sourced from local suppliers. Opening dishes include tuna ceviche with strawberry ponzu, whole grilled lobster with garlic butter and burnt lemon, and honey miso cod with apple dashi – plus giant roasts the eatery has become known for, served every Sunday.
