What’s New In Food This Month? December 2024
Twixmas Treats: What To Eat On The High Street
We tried a lot of festive sandwiches this year… Don’t waste your time with any old turkey sandwich – the one for your radar is the PAUL Christmas Club. A carnivore’s dream, this baguette combines basically all the ingredients you’d expect in a Christmas roast (turkey, bacon, cranberry – you get the gist) in bread that has bounce. Veggies won’t leave disappointed, though: the brie and flaked almond sandwich is as good – it’s a sweet and savoury treat combining cheese, honey, spinach and gently toasted almonds. We’re also fans of the Orée Mince Pie Danish. This pastry has absolutely no respect for tradition in the best way – it’s fruity, soft and has oh-so-much spicing). Finally, the M&S Christmas Sando is another hero product for this time of year – a spin on its summer Katsu sandwich, pillowy bread houses breaded chicken, ginger pickled slaw, gochujang mayo, spinach and, of course, a cranberry chutney.
How To Spend Your Christmas Cash…
Found a neat bill in a Christmas card this year? Hopefully about £210’s worth: the upcoming Nakiri knife from Allday Goods is the ultimate treat for getting through the festive period. The brand repurposes plastic waste into beautiful handles for traditionally crafted Japanese blades – this new Nakiri knife uses Maldon Sea Salt pots. A high-carbon, well-edged knife that’ll make slicing vegetables a breeze, with the conscious to boot. £210, alldaygoods.co.uk
Mark Your Calendar: Pastaio Is Launching A Tiramisu Series
Dispel dreary January with a sweet treat: Pastaio’s tiramisu series will take you through to Spring, with three month-long pop-ups to look forward to. Chefs Denai Moore, Ana Da Costa, and Nicola Lamb will each put a unique spin on the classic dessert. For starters, it’s Denai’s vegan Mango Coconut tiramisu. Even sweeter? £1 from every tiramisu goes to charity – Denai’s choice is Medical Aid for Palestinians. pastaio.co.uk
More Veganuary Snacking: Donutelier’s Swirl Collection
Cult boutique bakery Donutelier is indulgent to its core; its new Veganuary launches don’t exclude anyone from treating themselves. The Vegan Swirl Collection is a must try: meet the Raspberry Marzipan swirl – topped with freeze-dried raspberries and rose flakes – and the Chocolate Swirl, a rich blend of chocolate, praline, and hazelnut with a crumble topping. Both £6.40, donutelier.co.uk
New Year’s Resolution: Try Tamila’s New Breakfast
From the team behind the Tamil Prince is Clapham’s slightly faster eatery, Tamila. And now it has breakfasts. All-vegetarian and made up of South Indian staple dishes, Chef Prince’s new menu is available each weekend. Venture to Northcote Road to try his Gunpowder Idle (a savoury rice cake) or Madhu Vadai (which is a fried doughnut), among others – all served with sambar, as well as coconut and tomato chutneys. The perfect spot to discover if your New Year’s resolution includes eating more breakfasts. tamila.uk
