Pizza for less than a pound? We're in
First opened in Soho in 1965, Pizza Express was Britain’s first earliest pizza chain, paving the way for our national love affair with the Italian dish. Sixty years on, the restaurant group is celebrating its anniversary by returning to its original prices, meaning guests can enjoy pizzas for pennies.
How To Get 33p Pizzas At Pizza Express This March
Those keen to capitalise on the deal will need to be quick, though: it’s on offer for just one hour, from 5 – 6pm on 27 March. You’ll be able to order the Margherita for just 33p, the American for 45p, La Reine for 48p or the American Hot for 50p. Those who fancy upgrading to a Romana pizza base can do this for £1.95 extra, and gluten-free alternatives are also available.
Alongside this, there will be a month-long Birthday Set Menu on offer, where you can order a starter and classic pizza for £19.65 – not 33p, but still pretty good. This one will run from 3 – 28 March, with dishes on offer including dough balls, calamari and mozzarella sticks followed by pizzas like the American, the Fiorentina and the Sloppy Giuseppe.

The Pizza Express story began when Cambridgeshire-born founder Peter Boizot shipped over an authentic pizza oven from Rome to London after discovering the joys of Italian food on a trip to Florence. Initially slices were sold from a hatch on Wardour Street costing just two shillings (10p) a slice. But before long, the menu was finalised, tables were installed and the first restaurant was born. Over the years the brand grew, and now there are over 360 pizzerias across the UK and Ireland.
Paula Mackenzie, CEO at PizzaExpress, said: ‘In 1965 we brought proper pizza to the UK, and what better way to mark those 60 years than with 60 minutes of our original pizzas at their original prices.’
The Pizza Express anniversary deal will be available from 5 – 5pm on 27 March, the Birthday Set Menu will be available from 3 – 28 March, both across all branches. pizzaexpress.co.uk
