Fancy some fresh veggies for your Christmas roast?

From beauty to jewellery and drinks, there are a whole host of exciting advent calendars already available to buy for 2024. But we think we’ve found the most wholesome way to countdown to Christmas: by growing your own ingredients with a daily dose of seeds.

Grow Your Own Veggies With This Seed Advent Calendar

Heirloom seed company She Grows Veg is releasing a new grow-your-own advent calendar, perfect for ardent gardeners and chefs alike. It contains 24 individually-wrapped envelopes containing edible plant and flower seeds from the brand’s range – all wrapped in special eco-friendly Christmas gift bags, which you can reuse for gardening tools.

Each day of advent, you’ll receive a QR code linking to a YouTube video telling you what to do with your seeds, with a special surprise for 25 December. Exactly which seeds you’ll find inside remains under wraps, but She Grows Veg offers a wide range of 156 varieties which can be used to grow veggies such as aubergines, beetroot, courgettes, kale and squash. Perhaps you’ll even have some fresh produce to use in time for your Christmas dinner?

If you’re a novice to the grow-your-own world, we’ve created a beginner’s guide here, which includes tips on creating a vegetable patch and planting seeds indoors.

She Grows Veg was launched in 2023 by garden designers Lucy Hutchings and Kate Cotterill. Lucy soared to fame on Instagram as @shegrowsveg after sharing snippets of her passion for growing unusual vegetables from heirloom and rare seeds, and decided to turn her love for growing into a business. A deep care for the environment is embedded into the ethos of the brand, aiming to inspire people to eat the freshest produce with zero food miles.
