Heston Blumenthal’s three-Michelin-starred The Fat Duck is one of the world’s most renowned restaurants, offering an experimental gastronomic experience. However, it’s also notoriously expensive, with the full menu costing up to a whopping £395pp. This February, though, diners can have a taste of the action for less, with a shorter, lower-priced version of the famed tasting menu on offer until the end of the month.
How To Dine At The Fat Duck For Less
It’s by no means cheap, mind: the limited Sensorium Select menu is priced at £225pp. But if a trip to the Bray restaurant is on your bucket list, now could be a good time to visit.
The abridged menu features signatures like the Sound of the Sea, a fish dish which involves listening to the sound of waves crashing while you eat; and the Aerated Beetroot, a beetroot macaroon filled with creamed horseradish.
In an email to customers, the Fat Duck said: ‘For a limited period, the Fat Duck is offering an alternative, shorter menu – the Sensorium Select – giving the opportunity to experience a specially curated series of dishes that capture the creative core of the Sensorium menu – what you might call a taster of the tasting menu. A simple, intense way of exploring exactly what the Fat Duck is all about.’
With just 14 tables, the restaurant has been famously hard to secure a table at – but the website currently shows there is availability on multiple nights in February.
After opening in 1995, The Fat Duck soon became synonymous with Blumenthal’s experimental style of cooking. The restaurant received its first Michelin star in 1999, going on to secure two more in 2004, which it has held onto ever since. It serves a lengthy tasting menu designed to play with diners’ senses, with some of the most iconic dishes over the years including snail porridge, bacon and egg ice cream, and meat fruit.
