Who will be crowned Uber Eats' restaurant of the year?

There’s no better feeling than the doorbell ringing when you’re waiting hungrily for your takeaway. But which deliveries will hit the spot every time? Uber Eats has revealed its list of finalists for the UK and Ireland’s best restaurant of the year for 2024.

Uber Eats Reveals Finalists For Restaurant Of The Year

A pool of 130 restaurants have been whittled down to just 12, ahead of this year’s grand winner being crowned at a ceremony on 14 November. The only spot in London to make the list was Junglees, a gourmet burger joint established in 2021, whose most popular dish is the on-trend smash burger. This was joined by two other burger spots: 40 Ounce in Gateshead, and Locke Burger in Limerick, Ireland, a cult spot headed up by chef Richard Costello.

Other finalists include Natty’s Jerk Shack, a Caribbean restaurant with outposts in Portsmouth and Bournemouth, which has made the list for the third year running. There’s also The Soho Tavern, a gastropub serving Indian food (Uber Eats users particularly love the butter chicken), and Sqew Shawarma Bar in Leeds, known for its kebabs.

Two fried chicken spots are also in the running for the top prize: The Nashville Cluck in Liverpool, renowned for its buttermilk chicken, and American-inspired spot Chicken and Shakes.

Scotland’s top takeaway spot is Salt & Chilli Oriental, Jimmy Lee’s Chinese restaurant, with outposts in both Edinburgh and Glasgow

It’s not all about the savoury stuff, though: Irish ice cream shop Mackles – which has branches in places including Tyrone, Donegal and Belfast – is also a finalist. The popular spot sells decadent sundaes topped with everything from brownies to Nutella to Kinder Buenos.

The awards are being judged by a panel of chefs and foodies including Andi Oliver, Kieran Monlouis and Josh Kleiner, founder of the 2023 winner Sandwich Sandwich, which recently launched a new opening in London. Winners receive a £100,000 prize to invest in their business, while all finalists receive £5,000.

Matthew Price, General Manager UK, Ireland and Northern Europe at Uber Eats said: ‘A massive congratulations to all our regional finalists! The calibre of businesses taking part in our Restaurant of the Year Awards continues to grow. I look forward to welcoming all the teams to the awards in November, and hearing more about their journey as a small restaurant business.’
