London is renowned for its pizza scene, with restaurants often scooping up awards and appearing on global ranking lists. Most recently, the capital has put on a strong showing in 50 Top Pizza’s latest list, World Artisan Pizza Chains.

50 Top Pizza’s World Artisan Pizza Chains: Who Made The List?

Curated by the same people who put together 50 Top Pizza, the World Artisan Pizza Chains is an awards list aiming to celebrate pizza chains rather than individual restaurants. The 2024 list featured many London spots, with Big Mamma Group placing highest, ranked as the third best pizza chain in the world.

Founded in 2013, Big Mamma Group now runs five Italian eateries across the city: Jacuzzi, Gloria, Circolo Popolare, Carlotta and Ave Mario. The restaurants are known for their OTT interiors and equally decadent menus, where Neapolitan-style pizzas are topped with everything from truffle to pistachio.

Berbere Pizzeria

The second most high ranking London pizza chain was Berberé at number six, which has branches in Clapham and Kentish Town – with another set to open in Tottenham Court Road this December. This one is helmed by brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe, who travelled all over Italy to learn the art of pizza perfection.

Two other London chains appeared in the top ten: Pizza Pilgrims in seventh place and Eataly in ninth. Manchester-born group Rudy’s, which has outposts in London, came in at number 27, followed by Rossopomodoro at number 29.

So who took home the coveted number one gong? Surprisingly, the winning group is not based in Italy, but a Spanish chain called Grosso Napoletano, which has over 40 restaurants across the country.
