This Is The World’s Best Bar For 2024

For the first time ever, Mexico has come out tops in the annual World’s 50 Best Bars list. Handshake Speakeasy, a bar in Mexico City, took home the number one spot in the 2024 awards, announced in a ceremony in Madrid last night.

World’s 50 Best Bars: 2024 Winners Announced

Hidden behind a secret door in the neighbourhood of Colonia Juárez, Handshake Speakeasy is designed to evoke the old-school Hollywood speakeasy bar – think black marble, moody lighting and vintage spirits aplenty. These retro interiors, though, are paired with a futuristic cocktail menu, helmed by pioneering bar director Eric van Beek. Familiar drinks are given surprising twists using cutting-edge techniques and homemade infusions, alongside the use of rare and aged spirits.

Sips, Barcelona

This was followed in second place by Bar Leone in Hong Kong – the first solo venture from  esteemed bartender Lorenzo Antinori. In third place was Sips in Barcelona, which took home the top gong in 2023, renowned for its imaginative drinks and chic pastel pink and green interiors.

It was another strong year for London, which had four bars on the list. Tayēr + Elementary came in fourth place, the buzzy east London bar helmed by Monica Berg and Alex Kratena, with Connaught Bar – another previous winner – coming in at number 13. Satan’s Whiskers in Bethnal Green also made the list at number 29, with Scarfes Bar at Rosewood London being named number 37.
