This Is Britain’s Most Expensive Street

We all know London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, so it’s no surprise the country’s priciest street is located in the capital. According to Rightmove, Buckingham Gate in Westminster has won the trophy for Britain’s most expensive address, with homes costing an average of just under £10m.

Which Are London’s Most Expensive Addresses?

Located just down the road from Buckingham Palace, the average property on the road costs just under £10m – although some homes will set you back far more. One nine-bedroom Grade II listed mansion, for instance, is on the market for £45 million.

In second place is Vicarage Gate in the prestigious neighbourhood of Holland Park, where houses have an average asking price of £6.33 million. This area is a hotspot for celebrities: the Beckhams have a home there (reportedly worth £31 million), and Simon Cowell recently sold his mansion there for a reported £15 million. 

This is followed by Park Road in St John’s Wood, which has an average property price of £5.8 million. The village-like St John’s Wood is another magnet for A-listers: Rihanna recently sold her eight-bedroom home there for £27.5 million. St John’s Wood Road in Maida Vale, meanwhile, was London’s fourth most expensive street, with homes on the road costing an average of £5.4 million. 

Cadogan Square, Knightsbridge, London

And, of course, Knightsbridge made it onto the list with Cadogan Square, named after Earl Cadogan. Homes on this street cost an average of £4.5 million, but many are far higher, such as one Grade II listed, seven-bedroom apartment with an asking price of £17 million.

‘London’s status as the hub of luxury property in the UK remains unchallenged,’ said Rightmove’s property expert Tim Bannister. ‘Although the possibility of buying one of these homes is limited to a very lucky few, there’s clearly a fascination with these prestigious homes as we find they’re often among our most viewed properties on Rightmove.’

Outside of London, the country’s most expensive street was Old Avenue in Weybridge, Surrey, where homes cost an average of £2.6 million. In Scotland, meanwhile, Simpson Loan in Edinburgh secured the top spot, with homes costing an average of £534k.
