When is a home not just a home? When it’s a London landmark – and Bayswater’s brand new development, The Whiteley, will transform the capital’s first ever department store into a collection of ultra-luxe homes. Spanning 1.1 million square feet, the epic regeneration will provide a total of 139 residences alongside a cinema, gym, an array of dining and retail spaces, and a Six Senses Hotel. While the project is set for completion this year, the first show apartment has just been unveiled, and it’s dazzling.

Upon crossing the theshold, you’ll note heritage windows, towering four-metre ceilings, and an open plan, loft-style layout. Boasting incredible interiors courtesy of NYC-based designer Kelly Behun, the three-bedroom home has been finished in rich shades of rose, lavender and gold, alongside green accents which pay homage to The Whiteley’s proximity to the verdant expanses of Hyde Park.

Parquet flooring and fluted columns speak to the development’s illustrious history, and you’ll even spot bespoke pieces like hand-crafted sconces – specially commissioned from artist Chris Wolston – which enhance the breathtaking scale of the living/dining space. Guests can settle on the gorgeous curved sofa, take a seat at the custom walnut dining table (designed by Belgian artist Benoit Viaene) or gather around the elegant kitchen island, which is flanked by hand-carved stools sourced from Bali.

With colourful art pieces, patterned rugs, statement light fixtures and meticulously-selected furniture, the apartment blends historic elements with superb modern design to create a truly timeless space. It’s certainly the crowning jewel of this historic development, although it has a price tag to match: while The Whiteley’s other apartments start at the £1.5 million mark, this magnificent home is on the market for a rather dizzying £12.5 million.
