Hotspots for A-listers' homes
We all know London is home to A-listers from all corners of the globe. But which neighbourhoods are the most star-studded? Read on to discover London’s top hotspots for celebrity homes. From the quiet countryside-esque Richmond to the ultra-chic Holland Park, these are the areas you’re most likely to bump into the Beckhams or Harry Styles going for a stroll.
London’s Top Hotspots For Celebrity Homes
Richmond
With its famous deer park, idyllic riverside and pretty village-like streets, it’s no surprise Richmond has long been a hotspot for celebrities. The leafy south west London neighbourhood feels like a halfway point between town and country, and there’s plenty of space for huge mansions. Brangelina bucked the trend back in 2012, buying a £10 million home in the area, and Tom Hardy lived there for many years with his family (though he reportedly recently made the move to Sussex). Amanda Holden also recently sold her Richmond home for £5 million. And last year, much excitement was sparked by news that it-couple Tom Holland and Zendaya had bought a house there – however Holland later shut down the rumours.
So who might Richmond residents rub shoulders with today? David Attenborough has lived there for many years, and describes it as his ‘favourite place on earth’ (and he’s been to a lot of places!). Hollywood couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have also reportedly bought a property in the borough recently, leading fans to draw comparisons with Ted Lasso as a result of Reynolds’ connection with Wrexham AFC (the series was filmed in Richmond).
Holland Park
Perhaps the London area that has drawn in the most A-listers over the years is Holland Park, in the west of the city. With an opera house nestled within the greenery and a Japanese-inspired Kyoto Garden, the park itself is undeniably attractive, as are the mansion-lined streets surrounding it. Holland Park has drawn in so many famous faces over the years that it has acquired the nickname Millionaire’s Row. The Beckhams have a suitably lavish home there (reportedly worth an estimated £31 million), and Elton John has owned a property in the area since the ‘90s. There’s also Robbie Williams, who bought the historic Woodland House back in 2013, with an estimated 47 rooms – and an underground spa currently in the works.
Hampstead
Home to the world-famous heath and a string of glamorous hilltop mansions, it’s no surprise Hampstead is one of London’s most star-studded boroughs. The area has a long artistic and literary history: it was the hometown of Elizabeth Taylor, and many of the Romantic poets lived there, such as Keats, Shelley and Byron. Nowadays the glam NW3 postcode is home to an impressive roll call of singers and actors, including Helena Bonham Carter, Liam Gallagher and Harry Styles, who allegedly owns three homes in the area.
Primrose Hill
Just down the road from Hampstead, Primrose Hill is another hotspot for the rich and famous. During the noughties the pretty neighbourhood – which boasts incredible views of London from its titular hill – became notorious for housing London’s party set, such as Kate Moss, Jude Law and Noel Gallagher. Most of them have moved elsewhere now, making way for a new set of bright young stars, such as Daisy Lowe, Lily James, Matt Smith and Douglas Booth. Daniel Craig and his wife Rachel Weisz own a five-bedroom mansion in the area, and it’s rumoured that Calvin Harris bought a £7.5 million house down the road earlier this year.
St John’s Wood
A village-like area in the heart of north west London, St John’s Wood is one of the capital’s most affluent neighbourhoods – and another hotspot for celebrity homes It’s home to arguably the most famous recording studio in rock ‘n’ roll history, Abbey Road Studios, which is synonymous with the Beatles – and indeed one of them still lives there today. Sir Paul McCartney moved into his house on Cavendish Avenue in 1996, and he uses it as his London base to this day. These days his neighbours include Homeland star Damian Lewis – and up until recently, Rihanna, who had an eight-bedroom home there (she sold it earlier this year for a casual £27.5 million).
