While the MTV VMAs are dominating the headlines stateside, over in the UK, it’s all about the National Television Awards (aka the NTAs), which also took place last night. In case you missed it, here are all of the key takeaways from Britain’s biggest night in television.

The Headlines

It was a huge evening for ITV’s surprise hit series, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, with the ensemble cast bagging the New Drama award against three Netflix original series – Baby Reindeer, Fool Me Once and One Day – and ITV’s own Red Eye, as well as a special ‘Impact’ award while Toby Jones also walked away with the Drama Performance award for his role in the series. Elsewhere, fan favourite Mrs Brown’s Boys bagged Best Comedy against Guy Ritchie’s high budget Netflix drama The Gentlemen, as well as Brassic, Ghosts and Not Going Out. Anything can happen when awards are voted for by the fans…

It wasn’t all bad news for Netflix, however, with Bridgerton bagging the Returning Drama award, beating out its own The Crown, as well as Trigger Point, Vera and Call the Midwife. Meanwhile, Strictly Come Dancing bagged best Talent Show amid hot water headlines, while C&TH favourite The Traitors walked away with Reality Competition.
