The BAFTA Television Awards are set to return in May, honouring TV from 1 January to 31 December 2024

From an iconic moment in The Traitors that will go down in TV history to naked tennis, ‘2024 was an outstanding year for television,’ says Paul Ludlow, president of P&O Cruises, which is the title sponsor of this year’s BAFTA Television Awards. While the full list of nominees is still yet to come, the Academy has revealed a shortlist of six TV snippets for its ‘Memorable Moments’ award – the only TV BAFTA voted for by the public.

Last year, Happy Valley took home the prize, with Catherine Cawood and Tommy Lee Royce’s final kitchen showdown sticking firmly in the minds of the public. They beat out the Beckhams, Ncuti Gatwa’s reveal as the 15th Doctor, Logan Roy’s Succession death and more to take home the prize. Here’s who’s up for it this year.

BAFTA TV Memorable Moments 2025: The Shortlist

The following six memorable moments are up for the grand prize, which will be announced at the BAFTA Television Awards ceremony on 11 May 2025 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall:

  • Bridgerton (Netflix): ‘THE’ carriage scene where Colin admits his true feelings for Penelope
  • Gavin & Stacey: The Finale (BBC): As the other guests admit their doubts, Smithy gets Mick’s opinion before deciding whether to marry Sonia
  • Mr Bates vs The Post Office (ITV): Sub postmistress Jo Hamilton follows advice to the letter on call to the Horizon helpline, but finds the amount she owes doubles
  • Rivals (Disney+): Rupert Campbell Black and Sarah Stratton are caught playing naked tennis
  • Strictly Come Dancing (BBC): Chris McCausland’s performance to You’ll Never Walk Alone with Dianne Buswell
  • Traitors (BBC): ‘Paul isn’t my son… but Ross is!’

If some of those nominees seem a little dated, that’s because the eligibility period stretches the calendar year: 1 January to 31 December 2024 in this instance. That means Diane – famed for her fizzy rosé related demise – can have one last hurrah before 2025’s cast of The Traitors inevitably receive TV BAFTA nominations next year. Diane joins a steamy Bridgerton moment starring Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, and a moment from Rivals that broadcasters are already struggling to screen: when Taggie (Bella Maclean) stumbles across Rupert (Alex Hassell) and Sarah (Emily Atack) playing tennis in the nude.
