What Is Cli-Fi?

Cli-fi (aka climate fiction) is a literary genre dealing with climate change. Often including science fiction and exploring dystopian or utopian themes and societies, cli-fi is generally speculative, meaning authors muse on what might happen either in our own world’s future, or in the future of a fictional world, considering how humanity might respond to major climactic events and weather catastrophes. Popular cli-fi authors include Kim Stanley Robinson, Richard Powers, Paolo Bacigalupi, and Barbara Kingsolver.
