And the next instalment is officially in production
Four years on from its debut on streaming platform Netflix, Bridgerton continues to draw in huge audiences with its Regency storytelling, glamorous costumes and orchestral soundtracks. After two (very long) years, season 3 was finally released in the spring, but we’re naturally looking way ahead. Will there be a season 4 of Bridgerton? And will we ever see Benedict get his love match? Yes and yes. It’s official: season 4 of Bridgerton is finally in production, and Benedict is at the centre. Here’s everything we know so far.
Bridgerton Season 4: Plot, Cast, Release Date & More
Bridgerton Season 4 Is Officially In Production
Filming is now underway for the fourth instalment of Netflix’s smash hit period drama, Bridgerton. And, to celebrate the occasion, the streaming giant has just released a new selection of on-set imagery – including the first official photo of leading lovers Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha).
Taking to Instagram, the official Bridgerton account announced: ‘Esteemed members of the Ton, it is with great joy that we inform you that Bridgerton Season 4 is officially in production!’

Will There Be Season 4 Of Bridgerton?
Yes, season 4 of Bridgerton is on its way. Netflix confirmed the upcoming season all the way back in April 2021, with a now-deleted Instagram post penned by Lady Whistledown reading: ‘Esteemed members of the Ton, It seems we have a rather special announcement. Bridgerton shall return for seasons three and four. This author shall have to purchase more ink…’
‘We are hard at work on season four,’ showrunner Jess Brownell told Town & Country. ‘We’ve broken out the whole season and are finalizing the scripts, and I’m super excited about where we’re headed. There are some clues at the end of season three about where we’re headed. So I have a feeling fans will probably work it out.’
Which Bridgerton Will Season 4 Be About?
It’s official: Bridgerton season 4 will centre on Benedict. Taking to Instagram, Netflix shared: ‘It has been brought to this author’s attention that perhaps it is time to unmask the newest suitor of the marriage mart… Benedict Bridgerton’s story is coming next season.’ The caption was accompanied by a teaser trailer, showing the news spreading across the Ton. Text over the video reads: ‘This season’s most compelling match will be unmasked. Welcome to the marriage mart, Benedict.’
You can watch the teaser trailer below.

What Happen In Bridgerton Season 4?
The teaser ends with Luke Thompson out of character opening his dressing room door and accepting a suit for the masquerade ball. All of these references to masks refer to a big plot point in Benedict’s story: he meets his ultimate match, Sophie, at a masquerade ball.
In Julia Quinn’s novels, Book 3 is about Benedict, but Bridgerton season 3 focussed on his younger brother Colin, instead – making his season is the most natural follow-up to Colin’s story. But where does this leave Eloise? Well, if season 5 puts the spotlight on Eloise, we will be right back on track with Quinn’s books.
Whatever the theories, the show‘s executive producer Shonda Rhimes has been very vocal about each member of the Bridgerton family getting their own main character moment. ‘Everybody’s going to have a main arc every season,’ Rhimes told Town & Country. ‘There’s going to be one for each one of the Bridgertons. We laid out the story in a way that felt right and necessary for us. And, eventually, every last one of those Bridgertons is going to have a love story.’
She also told Variety ahead of season 3 that, ‘I do have a very specific plan of where we go each season — which one is which. Because you really have to start seeding in the other siblings, and what’s going on with them, to push them to the next season. We’ve really talked about it through, I think, Season 6 or maybe 7.’ So, if Rhimes has anything to say about it, expect plenty more instalments of the hit series – and plenty more seeds blossoming into love stories.
And what about Francesca? Francesca’s Bridgerton season 3 plot features in Book 6 as a flashback. Therefore, we think the rest of her story won’t be the subject of season 4, but we will still see her around the Ton (when she’s not tending to her new Scottish estate) before she returns to the fore in season 6.
Who Will Star?
Expect the usual suspects, plus one very special newcomer: Yerin Ha has officially been cast as Sophie, Benedict’s love match, who he meets at a masquerade ball. The news was announced on Instagram, with a faux Lady Whistledown writing: ‘Dearest Gentle Reader, as preparations for the next social season are almost underway, we request a warm welcome to the newest member of the Ton… Presenting Yerin Ha as Sophie in Bridgerton Season 4!’

Meanwhile, the belle of season 3, Nicola Coughlan, has also announced her return. So who else will star? Much of the main cast will return for another season, bar Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor, who departed the show after seasons 1 and 2. The main cast list for season 4 will include:
- Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton
- Yerin Ha as Sophie
- Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton
- Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton
- Simone Ashley as Kathani ‘Kate’ Bridgerton (née Sharma)
- Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton
- Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington
- Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown
- Adjoa Andoh as Lady Agatha Danbury
- Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte
- Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton
- Hannah Dodd as Francesca Bridgerton
- Victor Alli as John Stirling, Earl of Kilmartin
- Will Tilston as Gregory Bridgerton
- Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton
- Polly Walker as Portia Featherington
- Harriet Cains as Philippa Finch (née Featherington)
- Bessie Carter as Prudence Dankworth (née Featherington)
- Martins Imhangbe as Will Mondrich
- Joanna Bobin as Lady Araminta Cowper
- Dominic Coleman as Lord Cowper
- Jessica Madsen as Cressida Cowper
- Daniel Francis as Marcus Anderson
Will There Be Another Spin-Off?
Never say never. Between seasons 2 and 3 of Bridgerton, fans were treated a surprise spin-off series following the life of a young Queen Charlotte. In Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, we got to know some of the older members of the ton from the perspective of their youth – and many seemingly ha stories that weren’t quite yet finished. We wouldn’t be surprised to see more prequels in the future. (Our bets are on Violet Bridgerton.)
Release Date
There’s no release date for Bridgerton season 4 just yet, but we reckon there could be quite a wait. As of July 2024, filming is officially underway – so at least we’re making progress. We’re hoping Netflix will hear the cries of its fandom and whip up season 4 in time for Spring 2025.
