The show will boast a score by Elton John

We’re hard pressed to find anything better than the classic film The Devil Wears Prada – but a musical version might just take the biscuit. Here’s everything you need to know before it hits London‘s West End later this year.

The Devil Wears Prada Musical Is Coming To London

With its stellar casting and iconic fashion, The Devil Wears Prada is undoubtedly one of the most beloved films of the 00s. But can this movie masterpiece (and Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel, on which it is based) really be translated into theatre? Fans will find out in October 2024, when the musical version arrives on the West End after an initial run in Plymouth in the summer.

The musical version of The Devil Wears Prada was first conceived in 2017, when Elton John expressed his interest in the project. It was trialed in Chicago last year, but reviews were mixed; its highly anticipated 2024 reimagining, however, is led by a star-studded team. Alongside Elton himself, this includes Back To The Future’s Tim Hatley, who will manage the set design; award-winning American musician Shaina Taub, who is in charge of lyrics; actor-writer Kate Wetherhead, who oversees the script; and renowned Broadway director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell (of Pretty Woman, Hairspray and Legally Blonde), who will be directing the musical.

When Will The Devil Wears Prada Musical Premiere?

After an exclusive preview show at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in July 2024, the musical will arrive at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End in October 2024.

Who Will Star In The Musical?

So, the key question: who will step into the shoes of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt? Finally, we have some news about the cast. It has been revealed that Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams will be taking on the role of Miranda Priestly in the musical. This is particularly exciting news considering Williams played modelling agency boss Wilhelmina Slater in Ugly Betty, a character whose managerial style mirrored that of Priestly. The rest of the cast is yet to be revealed.
