British Nominations At The Emmys 2024

The nominations for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards are officially locked in, with the winners revealed later this year. The world’s largest award ceremony honouring achievements in television, this edition will reward the best American prime time TV broadcast between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2024. The Emmys 2024: In Brief

HBO has officially been knocked off the American TV top spot – to be expected with no new seasons of The White Lotus, The Last of Us or Euphoria, as well as the end of Succession – and Hulu has taken its place. 

FX/Hulu’s historical drama Shogun leads the 2024 Emmy nominations, racking up a whopping 25 commendations. With a mostly Japanese cast and dialogue throughout the series, it’s the first Japanese-language series to be nominated in the Emmys’ Outstanding Drama Series category; after Korean Netflix drama Squid Game, it’s the second non-English-language series to be nominated in the category.

Hot on Shogun’s heels is another FX/Hulu drama, high intensity restaurant drama The Bear with 23 nominations, including 10 acting nominations, with Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Ebon Moss-Bachrac, Liza Colón-Zaya, Bob Odenkirk, Will Poulter, Olivia Colman and Jamie Lee Curtis all nominated across various categories.

Hulu again, next up is Only Murders in the Building with 21 nominations, followed by HBO’s True Detective: Night Country with 19 nominations, and the sixth and final season of Netflix’s The Crown with 18 nominations.

British Commendations At The Emmys 2024

It’s a good year to be British at the Emmys, with acknowledgements across the board. Netflix’s The Crown has attracted a slew of nominations for its final season, including for Imelda Staunton (Elizabeth II), Jonathan Pryce (Prince Philip), Dominic West (the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles), Elizabeth Debicki (Diana, Princess of Wales), Lesley Manville (Princess Margaret) and Claire Foy guest starring as a young Elizabeth II.

Meanwhile, The Crown alum Olivia Colman is commended for her guest appearance in US restaurant drama The Bear, as is Will Poulter. Naturally, Netflix’s haunting hit Baby Reindeer is also well represented across the board.

Why Are There Two Emmys In 2024?

Hang on a minute, didn’t we just have the Emmys? Yes indeed, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards took place on 15 January 2024, commending TV programming between 1 June 2022–31 May 2023. The ceremony was delayed from September 2023 due to Hollywood labour disputes.

How Can I Watch The 2024 Emmys In The UK?

The 75th Emmys ceremony in January 2024 was broadcast the following evening on Sky Max and Sky Showcase. We expect the same this time around, so Brits can watch the full ceremony at 9pm on 16 September 2024. If that’s not soon enough, Brits can find plenty of the action on YouTube and Facebook.
