Simon Bird’s puritanical Christian sitcom returns next week
Simon Bird’s surprise hit sitcom is back for another round next week. Here’s what to expect from Everyone Else Burns season 2.
Everyone Else Burns Season 2: Plot, Cast, Release Date & More
Centring on the puritanical Christian Lewis family in Manchester, Everyone Else Burns explores everything from family strife to marital chaos to imposing righteousness in the God-fearing sect. Written by Dillon Mapletoft and Oliver Taylor, the six-part first series launched in January 2023 to vast critical acclaim, leading to a swift series renewal in May 2023. And finally that renewal has come to fruition: season 2 will air very soon. But first…
What Will Happen In Everyone Else Burns Season 2?
According to Channel 4: ‘series two will challenge the Lewis family’s commitment to The Order more than ever before. Relationships are front and centre – as Rachel’s drive for independence is threatened by arranged marriage and cracks widen between David and Fiona. Meanwhile, Aaron will launch a revolutionary bid to drag The Order into the present day (with, and in spite of, his Dad’s help).’
There’s also a new face in The Order: Maude, played by none other than Fleabag’s Sian Clifford, who we know plays staunch and stiff to a T. ‘Maude is a dedicated Order Member,’ Clifford describes. ‘Puritanical to a fault. She goes after what she wants with unapologetic fervour. Brazen, superior, manipulative, a great cook, a lover of analogue technology and of course, squash.
‘It’s been joyous joining the show,’ Clifford added. ‘Dillon Mapletoft and Oli Taylor, the writer-creators, are absolute geniuses. Maude was a late character addition to the scripts and I was lucky enough that they just ran wild with her and let me do the same. I was also delighted to be reunited with Kate O’Flynn who is an old friend from drama school and of course Kadiff Kirwan, who I knew from Fleabag. It was such a surreal treat walking on to the sets for the first time too because I was so familiar with them as a viewer! I had a proper fan girl moment on my first day of filming when I pulled up to the Lewis house.’
