On New Year’s Day, we’re all looking for the perfect binge-worthy show to slump in front of the sofa with – so thank you, Netflix, for giving us just that. Dropping on 1 January 2024 is Fool Me Once, Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, which follows the success of other popular thrillers like Stay Close and I Will Find You. With a star-studded cast that includes Michelle Keegan and Joanna Lumley, plus an intriguing plot line, it’s looking like a good one. Here’s what to expect from Fool Me Once.
Fool Me Once: What To Expect From The Netflix Drama
What Is Fool Me Once About?
Fool Me Once is based on Coben’s book of the same name, and follows Maya Stern (played by Keegan), who witnesses her husband Joe (Richard Armitage) being brutally murdered in a robbery – or so it seems. Things take a turn when Maya spots him on her ‘nanny-cam’, and sets out to discover the truth.
In the trailer, we see her telling her mother-in-law: ‘I want answers.’ She asks: ‘how can a dead man appear on a secret camera?’, to which her mother-in-law responds, ‘what, my dead son, who we buried?’.
Brought in to lead the homicide investigation into Joe’s death is detective Sergeant Sami Kierce (Adeel Akhtar) – who, it turns out, is ‘grappling with secrets of his own’.
There’s also the question of whether the mystery is connected to another murder case in the family. The official synopsis also tells us: ‘Maya’s niece and nephew, Abby and Daniel, are trying to find the truth about their mother’s murder, several months earlier. Are the two cases connected?
‘Fool Me Once follows these characters on a thrilling hunt for the truth that will reveal shocking secrets and change their lives forever.’

Fool Me Once will be our fourth Netflix series together, and man, it never gets old!’
He describes the show as ‘a pulse-pounder – a shocking story of how secrets and deceit have the power to bring people together while simultaneously tearing them apart. I can’t wait to see how this dream cast brings these characters to life.’
