What Is Kin About?

Kin follows the Kinsellas, a local Dublin crime family that gets entangled in a feud with an international cartel. Yikes. But, as everything seems to be falling apart for the Kinsellas, their unbreakable family bonds prove to be their best weapon.

As the BBC summarised for series one: ‘A boy is killed and his family embarks on a gangland war with an international cartel: a war that is impossible to win. The Kinsellas are a local crime family, while the Cunningham cartel is a vast global organisation. It is David and Goliath. Out-numbered, out-financed and out-gunned, the Kinsellas find themselves holed up in their Dublin stronghold while their businesses fail, and family members and associates are picked off. But they have something the cartel does not: the unbreakable bonds of blood and family. They are kin.’

What Happens In Series 2?

The Kinsella family are back, and languishing at the top of the crime game in Dublin. But their triumph in series one has incurred the wrath of an enemy even more dangerous than Eamon Cunningham. Plus, where once unbreakable bonds of blood and family fuelled the Kinsellas’ triumphs, only suspicion, distrust and resentment remains.

‘The Kinsellas are back and the stakes are higher than ever,’ says Jennifer Ebell, EVP of EMEA Sales and Acquisitions at FIFTH SEASON. ‘Season two of this family crime drama is explosive.’

Will There Be A Third Series Of Kin?

Sadly, it’s not looking likely that there will be a third series of Kin, as the contracts of the main cast have expired. Another huge spanner in the works is the fact that Bron Studios, the production company behind the series, filed for bankruptcy in summer 2023. However, Emmett J. Scanlan (who plays Jimmy) recently mused that, by airing on Netflix, the show might reach an even bigger audience – thereby possibly nudging someone like Netflix or the BBC to snap up the show and continue it for themselves. With Charlie Cox (Michael) a key player in the Marvel Universe (playing Daredevil), we can only hope season three comes to fruition.
